The Senior Interior Designer is responsible for leading and executing all phases of the design process—from concept through installation—with a high level of creativity, precision, and professionalism. This includes overseeing design sourcing and making selections in alignment with project budgets and timelines, maintaining strong relationships with clients and vendors, and mentoring junior team members to foster a collaborative and high‑performing studio culture. The Senior Designer is also accountable for ensuring that every project reflects the aesthetic standards of the ABD STUDIO brand and delivers an exceptional, personalized client experience. Responsibilities
Develop design concepts that reflect both the client’s vision and ABD STUDIO's aesthetic standards. Source project‑specific design inspiration, materials, and furnishings within defined budgets and timelines. Prepare CAD floor plans, elevations, and detailed drawings. Lead internal design reviews and client presentations, and document notes from meetings and site visits. Oversee custom furniture and fabrication: review construction drawings, coordinate site measurements, approve finishes, and ensure quality control. Review RCPs, cabinetry, DFAs and other architectural drawings and provide detailed feedback. Guide and mentor junior team members, assign tasks, and ensure design assistants are supported in producing polished presentations, proposals, and sample kits. Periodically lead virtual design consultations and provide clients with clear written follow‑ups and actionable next steps. Qualifications
Designer portfolio required. 8+ years of experience at an interior design firm, involved in projects from concept through installation. Degree in Interior Design or related field. Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage design team members with strong communication skills. Advanced technical abilities, including construction documentation and AutoCAD drafting expertise. Proficiency with Design Manager or Studio Designer preferred. Proficiency with SketchUp or other rendering software preferred; hand‑drawing ability a plus. Strong familiarity with Google Drive (Sheets, Docs, Slides). Must have a reliable car; mileage reimbursed at standard IRS rates. Willing and able to travel to project sites outside the Bay Area. Skills & Abilities
Extensive industry knowledge of furniture, textiles, lighting, plumbing, stone, tile, millwork, custom fabrication, and vendor resources. Ability to create cohesive design concepts that balance scale, proportion, texture, color, function, and client goals within budget. Confident, positive leader with the ability to motivate teams and maintain a solution‑oriented mindset. Engaged with evolving design trends through publications, social media, influencers, and industry conversations, bringing fresh ideas to projects and team discussions. Strong problem‑solving, organization, and time‑management skills with the ability to successfully oversee multiple high‑end residential projects simultaneously. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration across internal teams, clients, and vendor partners. Strong relationship‑building skills that support a collaborative, respectful, and productive work environment. Dependable and self‑driven, capable of working independently while contributing actively within a team. Adaptable and personable, able to connect with a wide range of client and team personalities.
