Global Security (GS)

is a division of Mission Technologies at HII, providing live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) solutions for fleet sustainment, nuclear and environmental remediation, and defense manufacturing. Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is seeking a UI/UX Designer (Software Engineer 1) to support the Joint Training Synthetic Environment (JTSE) Joint Staff J7 contract onsite at our Suffolk, VA Joint Staff Complex.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Participate in the design, development, and deployment processes of the software delivery lifecycle – developing wireframes, style guides, and producing interface designs.

Conduct user research, create personas, wireframes, and interactive prototypes.

Map out user flows to ensure the usability and functionality of designs.

Work closely with engineers to ensure that designs are implemented effectively.

Maintain close collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver a final product that aligns with the user’s needs and contract objectives.

Develop low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes to communicate design concepts.

Conduct usability tests and user research to gather feedback on design decisions; iterate based on feedback to improve the design.

Participate in design reviews and clearly rationalize and justify design work.

Support the organization and facilitation of design workshops with clients and partners as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

0 years experience with Bachelors in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years relevant experience.

Client requirements: Bachelor’s degree, with a major in Graphic Design, Media Arts, Computer Science, Web Development, Human‑Computer Interaction, Mobile Computing, Software Engineering, Game Design, or a related field of study.

Understanding of user‑centered design methodologies and processes, including journey maps, persona creation, wireframing, usability testing, etc.

Understanding of concept ideation, design strategy, and digital prototyping.

Conceptualization, visual communication, and design ability.

Understanding of the capabilities and limitations of HTML, DHTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Ability to effectively collaborate with UX team on creative brainstorming, ideation, and other problem‑solving activities with stakeholders, managers and developers.

Ability to stay abreast of the latest UX design and technology trends.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Requirements

Ability to think strategically, collaborate across disciplines, be self‑driven, execute with an eye for detail, and easily adapt and grow within a fast‑paced and innovative environment.

Familiarity with the latest design tools and platforms: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD), Figma, and other UI design tools.

Familiarity with responsive web design to create user interfaces that automatically conform to multiple screen sizes and devices.

Ability to translate complex information into easy‑to‑understand designs and visual elements.

Ability to work on several projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.

Ability to maintain strong rapport with teammates, and collaborate effectively within and across teams with multiple personality types.
