Base pay range
$66,000.00/yr - $107,600.00/yr
Job Goal The Instructional Designer will be responsible for designing curriculum into engaging, standards-aligned, and accessible digital learning experiences that enhance student achievement.
Position Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field (preferred).
Experience with K-12 curriculum designing, graphic design, multimedia production, or gamification (preferred).
Proficiency with instructional authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Rise, Captivate, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite) (preferred).
Duties and Responsibilities
Understands and supports the mission, vision and values of Harmony Public Schools.
Reviews and analyzes existing curriculum (lesson plans, textbooks, teacher guides, assessments).
Redesigns and adapts instructional materials into digital formats while maintaining academic rigor and alignment with State standards.
Ensures content is engaging, age-appropriate, and adaptable to various learning styles.
Applies instructional design models by department to guide course development.
Creates storyboards, prototypes, and interactive e-learning modules.
Incorporates multimedia elements (video, audio, simulations, animations) to enhance learning outcomes.
Uses authoring tools (Articulate Storyline, Rise, Captivate, Camtasia, or similar) to build digital courses.
Integrates materials into the organization’s Learning Management System (Canvas, Schoology, Blackboard, Google Classroom, etc.).
Collaborates with subject matter experts (SMEs), graphic designers, and developers to ensure seamless implementation.
Ensures all digital courses meet Section 508 / WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility standards.
Provides accommodations such as alternative text, closed captioning, screen‑reader compatibility, and accessible assessments.
Develops formative and summative assessments that align with learning objectives.
Uses data and feedback to refine and improve course design.
Trains faculty/staff on how to deliver and facilitate digital courses.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the NSQOL “National Standards for Quality Online Courses” standards, or equivalent frameworks (Quality Matters (QM), iNACOL, etc.).
Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, Schoology, Buzz, etc.
Knowledge of universal design for learning (UDL) and accessibility standards (Section 508/WCAG).
Strong project management, collaboration, and communication skills.
Ability to educate with age‑appropriate language and teaching methods.
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
Ability to use computer including software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copy machine and telephone.
Ability to analyze data and generate reports.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Light work: may require occasional light lifting.
Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
Position is in office setting and may involve prolonged work at a desk in one location.
Moderate travel is required.
