Upon successful completion of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic Telecommunicator Licensing Course and state licensing exam within 12 months of employment, a recruitment bonus of $2000 will be provided. If the employee discontinues employment, the bonus must be refunded per applicable law. Essential Duties / Responsibilities

Coordinates communication between DPS officers and other law enforcement agency officials and coordinates staff serving as communications links during disasters, civil disturbances, and other serious incidents using telephone, computer networks, and radio systems. Coordinates emergency assistance in incidents posing threats to state and national safety and the well-being of law enforcement officers and the general public while exercising sound judgment and resourcefulness. Monitors, answers, evaluates, and prioritizes incoming calls regarding risks to life and safety, laws, DPS policies and procedures, road information, and missing persons using CAD, telephones, multi-channel radio, and databases; communicates effectively to obtain complete information to determine urgency and response needs. Researches, obtains, and analyzes tactical-level intelligence information in support of public safety or criminal events and security issues, including homeland security and the Texas Crime Stoppers program, for law enforcement officials with oversight. Performs analytical functions using computer software, hardware, and databases to support homeland security/criminal investigations with oversight. Coordinates communication center operations to maintain contact with field units, other agencies, emergency service providers, and the public; disseminates information in a timely, accurate manner. Monitors and maintains CAD system alerts for in-car computers; maintains TCIC/NCIC database entries and confirmations. Receives, processes, and reports suspicious activity according to established procedures. Coordinates instruction at training schools and provides training to personnel as required. Assists in inspection, basic troubleshooting and maintenance of communications equipment; participates in set up and operation of temporary communications command sites during special assignments, including roadblocks and disasters. May be required to qualify annually on shooting range with a Department-issued shotgun and maintain proficiency per Texas law and Department policies. May be considered essential personnel, testify in court regarding records or events, and work before, during, or after an emergency or disaster. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency policies. Perform other duties as assigned. General Qualifications and Requirements

Education

- Graduation from high school or equivalent is required. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in related fields is preferred. Experience

– Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in law enforcement crime analysis, dispatch, or emergency communications work preferred. Substitution: Education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. Licensure and/or Certification

- Must obtain FEMA 700A, ICS-800B, and TCOLE Telecommunicator Certification within 12 months of employment. Must obtain TCIC/NCIC and TLETS Certification within 6 months of employment. Must possess a valid driver license and automobile insurance. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a secret level security clearance. Regulatory knowledge

- Ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, state and federal regulations, policies, and procedures; knowledge of FCC rules pertaining to public safety communications equipment. Supervisory/Managerial/Leadership skills

- After training, monitor and operate multi-channel radio systems, computer terminals, and related equipment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software. Interpersonal Skills
