Viterbo University is accepting applications for a forward‑thinking Instructional Support/Audio Visual Technologist to join our dynamic Information and Instructional Technology team. This full‑time, exempt position plays a critical role in transforming the teaching and learning experience through innovative use of educational and audio‑visual technologies. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty and staff to design, implement, and support technology solutions that enhance classroom instruction, online learning, and campus‑wide engagement. From maintaining A/V systems to supporting the University’s learning management platform, this position combines technical expertise with a passion for innovation, problem‑solving, and exceptional service in support of academic excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- The primary role is to collaborate with faculty to effectively integrate technology, enhancing teaching and learning in courses and classrooms.
- Bridge the work of the library and instructional design teams by recommending technology‑based solutions that improve University operations and facilitate project completion.
- Expertise spans learning‑management systems, web conferencing, interactive applications, video production, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Support and install audio‑visual spaces, classrooms, and conferencing facilities for use by the university community.
- Research, install, set up, maintain, update firmware, and facilitate the effective use of audio‑visual equipment.
- Work in the scheduling system and with the registrar to schedule classrooms for maintenance.
- Provide technical support to campus faculty, staff, and students regarding instructional technology and audio‑visual equipment.
- Assist with the use of classroom hardware and software.
- Support the effective use of the learning‑management system and resolve trouble tickets.
- Coordinate with the Application Administrator to maintain and update the university’s learning‑management system and educational technology platforms.
- Monitor the LMS system and report problems to the host.
- Identify, evaluate, adopt, and integrate effective educational technology innovations into the curriculum and classroom.
- Write and develop training materials to accommodate self‑learners and provide resources for faculty.
- Design and develop learning experiences to support new initiatives.
- Conduct seminars and workshops on various educational‑technology topics.
- Assist in managing the course evaluation process.
- Generate activity reports and coordinate documentation of projects.
- Troubleshoot and maintain instructional‑technology systems and peripherals.
- Communicate challenges, successes, and failures proactively with leadership.
- Stay current with emerging trends and best practices in educational and audio‑visual technology.
- Willingness to undertake additional tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the Director of IIT to meet evolving departmental needs.
General Requirements / Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree with demonstrated experience supporting effective use of technology or equivalent experience is required.
- High level of people skills in working with and providing support for faculty, staff, and students.
- Working knowledge of A/V concepts and ability to coordinate multiple simultaneous projects.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and experience with technical writing and project management is preferred.
- Expertise in learning‑management systems, web authoring, or similar tools with the ability to create online educational materials is preferred.
- Expertise in Extron and audio‑visual installation, support, and troubleshooting is preferred.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Work hours may include days, evenings, and weekends as required by the position.
