About the Center The J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center in Morganton, North Carolina is an ICF certified facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities. We provide comprehensive residential care to citizens from 37 counties in the western portion of the state. JIRDC is a caring community where professionals work with people of various ages, cognitive, & functional abilities.
Description Of Work The primary purpose of this position is to provide therapeutic drama experiences to the residents of JIRDC in group and individual settings to support emotional, social, communication, physical, behavioral, and aesthetic needs of the individuals served. The CEAS will provide resident participants opportunities to express self through creative experiences, thus enhancing quality of life.
Responsibilities
Provide therapeutic drama experiences in group and individual settings to support resident emotional, social, communication, physical, behavioral, and aesthetic needs.
Facilitate resident expression through creative experiences to enhance quality of life.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management Preferences
Knowledge in at least one of the arts modalities: visual art, drama, music, or dance.
Training/experience in working with people with developmental disabilities or other special populations.
Salary Range $36,159.00 – $54,237.00
Shift Hours 1st shift (8:00 am – 5:00 pm), Monday – Friday with some evenings.
Additional Requirements
Pre‑employment drug testing and criminal record background checks.
Vaccination policy adherence.
Minimum Education AND Experience Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and a demonstrated knowledge of the medium being utilized; or a bachelor's degree in creative/expressive arts area (art, drama, music, dance) from an appropriately accredited institution; or Associate's degree in a human service field which includes a practicum or internship in a similar setting from an appropriately accredited institution with a demonstrated knowledge of the medium being utilized and two years of experience with a similar population; or high school or GED diploma and four years of experience in conducting programs with similar populations including a demonstrated knowledge of the medium being utilized; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
