Creative Expressive Arts Therapist (Broughton Hospital)
Pay: $41,857.00/yr – $62,786.00/yr
Description of Work Broughton Hospital is recruiting a Creative/Expressive Arts Therapist to provide individual, small group, and large group psychosocial interventions to patients with psychiatric, emotional, physical, and developmental impairments in an inpatient hospital setting. Services are individualized, goal‑directed or general, diversional, promoting positive interaction and healthy leisure.
Responsibilities
Conduct individual, small group, and large group psychosocial interventions for adolescent and adult psychiatric patients with Serious and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI).
Incorporate creative/expressive arts techniques such as singing, instrumental experiences, visual art, drama, poetry, literature, songwriting, lyric discussion, movement, and other forms of creative expression into sessions throughout the facility.
Assist with area‑specific or hospital‑wide patient events as needed.
Skills and Experience Preferred
Experience conducting group activities using a creative expressive arts medium.
Experience planning and leading creative art therapy interventions for individuals with mental illness, substance abuse, or intellectual/developmental disabilities.
Conditional Requirements
Must pass a State Bureau of Investigation Criminal History Check.
Must complete BLS/CPR training and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training during orientation.
Position is designated as mandatory and requires reporting or staying over during adverse weather events.
Other Employment Details Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm, with flexibility required to meet hospital needs.
Facility: Broughton Hospital is a regional psychiatric hospital serving the western 37 counties of North Carolina.

Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in music therapy, music/musical education with an equivalency in music therapy (each including a six‑month internship), a bachelor’s degree in a creative/expressive arts area (art, dance, drama, music) with two years of therapeutic programming experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Veteran’s and National Guard Preference Applicants seeking Veteran's Preference must attach a DD‑214 Member‑4 Form. Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach the appropriate documentation as described.
Background Screening and Policies Position requires pre‑employment drug testing, criminal record background checks, adherence to the facility vaccination policy, and prohibition of tobacco use on campus.
