In this role, as an Ecosystem Restoration Designer you will reside within the US West Environmental Permitting and Planning (EPP) Ecosystem – Restoration & Environmental Data Management & Analysis (RE) Department. You’ll lead projects providing expertise to clients to solve problems and meet multiple design objectives, while guiding teams to execute those tasks in a high‑quality manner as a subject matter expert. You will work across geographies, performance units, and departments (e.g., Water Resources and Transportation) on engineering, biology, and sustainability projects.

You will be joining the RE department consisting of restoration engineers, biologists, geomorphologists, landscape architects, arborists, project managers, GSI professionals, and more.

This is your opportunity to act as a technical support resource specialist in the field of environmental engineering and infrastructure ecology.

Responsibilities

Deliver sustainable solutions for clients and partner with Jacobs’ practitioners and subject matter experts.

Support and develop engineering design, biological assessments, manage project tasks, delegate work, and collaborate with engineers, environmental staff, and other design practitioners of varying experience levels.

Mentor junior staff and grow professionally while maintaining strong client relationships through proposals, networking, and sole source opportunities.

Project/task management, data analysis, report writing, design and engineering, field work, inter‑agency/inter‑disciplinary coordination, and business development.

Provide technical lead and design oversight, coordinating resources to accomplish quality deliverables and respond to client needs.

Lead teams with specialists in stream design, hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, fluvial geomorphology, and aquatic and wildlife biology for multi‑disciplinary evaluations of streams, stream/roadway crossings, and watershed planning/analysis.

Prepare and/or review plans, technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates, including basis of design reports, biological and geomorphic assessments, H&H models, floodplain analysis, bridge scour evaluation, wildlife‑vehicle collision analysis, and habitat connectivity modeling.

Represent Jacobs as a trusted partner to clients, supporting sales from early through end‑game and showcasing One Jacobs capabilities.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Civil or Environmental Engineering

At least 5 years of professional engineering and planning experience on ecological connectivity crossing design, working with permitting agencies, and multidisciplinary teams

Previous Department of Transportation (DOT), County, and/or municipal experience

Experience with roadway design and/or structures design and development of other roadway components incorporated into a set of construction plans

Ability to work within a multi‑disciplinary team

Experience writing technical reports

Strong self‑motivation, problem‑solving, and team‑oriented work practices

Excellent organizational skills, multitasking ability, and computer skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Biology, Civil or Environmental Engineering

Professional Engineering License in one or more states

Construction oversight experience installing restoration designs

Experience in project management for projects that include fish and/or wildlife crossings and ecological connectivity

Proficiency with HEC‑RAS 1D/2D and SHRH‑2D

Proficiency with ArcGIS

Proficiency with Civil 3D or MicroStation/Open Roads

1 or more successful constructed restoration projects in the last 5 years in the Pacific Northwest

1 or more successful won restoration projects in the last 5 years in the Pacific Northwest

Proficiency applying artificial intelligence and machine learning to engineering design and planning

Drone pilot’s license

Proficiency with graphical design and renderings
