Rebecca Taylor is seeking a Freelance Technical Designer to support and elevate the technical development of our garments from concept through production. This project-based role requires a seasoned specialist with deep technical knowledge, strong communication skills, and the ability to uphold our high-quality standards and ensure exceptional fit across all products. As a freelance partner, you will collaborate with our internal design, product development, and production teams to maintain consistency, quality, and brand integrity throughout the product lifecycle. You will support teams with expert-driven recommendations and execution. Responsibilities

Participate in development and production fittings alongside the Design Director and Technical Design Director. Support fit sessions by evaluating garment balance and proportions on the live model, including pinning and draping as needed. Accurately measure garments prior to fittings and enter all measurements into Excel tech packs across all categories. Collaborate with the design team during sketch handoff to interpret design intent and translate sketches into clear, production-ready technical specifications. Proactively identify and communicate potential construction or design issues before issuing tech packs. Create precise and well-documented fit comments in Excel tech packs, update measurements to reflect fit corrections, and illustrate pattern or construction changes in Adobe Illustrator as needed. Assist in fitting preparation, including organizing samples, tools, and supplies, and ensuring all garments are steamed and ready for review. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Technical Design or Fashion Design (Associate’s degree accepted with equivalent experience). Minimum 5 years of technical design experience in development or production, preferably within the contemporary or designer market. Required Skills

Strong understanding of patternmaking, garment construction, and fit evaluation on live models. Skilled in developing comprehensive tech packs and executing accurate fit comments. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Excel. Experience working with contemporary model size 4 preferred. Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a passion for process refinement and product excellence.
