Role Summary This temporary role is expected to last 6–8 weeks, offering a rate of $40–$45 per hour, dependent upon experience level. The Freelance Technical Designer reports to senior technical design leadership and supports the design team through the production cycle.
Responsibilities
Support Senior Technical Designers
Prepare for fittings, measuring samples, cross‑examining against tech packs and previous fit samples to ensure comments are corrected
Attend fittings to review overall fit, balance, and garment details throughout production
Apply knowledge of pattern making, draping, measuring, garment construction, grading, and factory production
Develop clear and comprehensive tech packages for factories
Correspond with factories/vendors to ensure all reorder styles meet spec requirements and communicate fit comments
Maintain professional and clear daily communication with cross‑functional teams and factories regarding construction details, fit, and pattern issues
Update tech packs with current information for BOM, construction templates, and measurements where applicable
Issue grading guidelines to vendors after fit approval
Work with Design to ensure fit, balance, and aesthetics throughout the pre‑production process, meeting calendar deadlines
Self‑manage workload based on calendar due dates and production deadlines, prioritizing tasks with a sense of urgency
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or certification in Apparel Manufacturing, Design, Patternmaking, or equivalent
4–6 years of apparel industry experience, including construction with full knowledge of production processes and timelines for woven and knit categories
Knowledge of silhouettes, fabrics, sewing techniques, trims, and technical aspects of fabric and construction
Proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Office, and Word
Extreme attention to detail
Ability to analyze workload, plan accordingly, and follow up with exceptional skill
Strong multitasking and prioritization ability
Strong work ethic, self‑motivation, and teamwork skills to make efficient call‑outs for the team and future endeavors
