Social Venture Partners Charlotte (SVP) is a philanthropic organization investing in and strengthening innovative nonprofits in Charlotte by cultivating a network of engaged donor volunteers through venture philanthropy. In this model of giving, donor volunteer members (called Partners) not only provide monetary grants but also invest their professional expertise and time to support a portfolio of nonprofits with strong potential to remove barriers to upward mobility. SVP Charlotte Carries Out Its Mission in Four Ways:
Deep, multi-year investments
of financial and human resources in a select number of promising nonprofits called Investees (currently working with three). Each Investee receives expertise, capacity building support from our Partner group and a financial grant.
SEED20 , SVP’s annual program to promote social innovation in the Charlotte area. Nonprofit participants are selected to receive coaching on how to succinctly and powerfully tell their story as well as capacity building programming throughout the year. The program includes a high-energy event with around 500 audience members and cash awards for the non-profit “3‑minute pitch” winners.
Spark Teams
is a pro‑bono advisory program in which our Partners come alongside nonprofits in short, focused capacity‑building projects in the areas of strategy/governance, marketing, fundraising, operations, and finance.
Partner education
through exposure to and engagement with community thought leaders of current social issues, helping Partners become more discerning and effective donors.
Role Description The Operations and Marketing Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director, other staff, and our Partners to help SVP reach its next level of impact through support of nearly 200 of the area’s most promising nonprofits. The position is full‑time, 40 hours per week. The Coordinator will be supervised and report to the Executive Director. As part of a small staff, the selected person must be flexible to adjust to the organization’s evolving needs.
Specific Job Responsibilities Include (percentages indicate portion of time estimated for each responsibility)
Program Management (30%)
Investment Committee : Manage the due diligence process to accept nonprofit applications, review and select investees, publish grant guidelines, process letters of interest, proposals and supporting documents, provide support to the selection committee, and recommend process improvements.
Investee Portfolio : Oversee and provide ongoing support to nonprofits in the Investee program and the Partners supporting them. Help identify skill‑based volunteer needs and match corresponding Partners with volunteer engagements.
SEED20 : Serve as a key resource to support staff for our flagship SEED20 program. Provide operational support to SEED20 core programs, including communications, on‑site logistics such as catering, set‑up/tear‑down for all in‑person events, and coordinate logistics for Alumni Network program webinars and workshops, including educational events, communication, catering, site location coordination and reporting.
Support Marketing & Communications (30%) : Complete activities to maintain a communications strategy that accurately conveys SVP’s mission and activities consistently and broadly. Support marketing initiatives in conjunction with the Executive Director, other staff members, and volunteer Marketing Committee. Collect and coordinate content for monthly e‑newsletter, annual report and other stakeholder communications. Regularly source content and update social media sites and websites, and maintain a stories and photo bank of SVP stakeholders, activities and impact.
Event Coordination (30%) : Support coordination of program‑related events such as the execution of creative social and educational events hosted by SVP. Coordinate logistical components including invitations, agendas, materials, and catering of events such as Quarterly Partner meetings, recruitment events, and educational events. Attend the events and maintain the SVP organizational calendar.
Community Engagement (10%) : Serve as an ambassador and networker for SVP. Assist the Executive Director and other staff by representing SVP at corporate, nonprofit and community‑sponsored events. Attend educational events and gatherings (philanthropic, nonprofit, academic, policy) in and around the Charlotte area. Develop a strong knowledge of issues and trends in our investment focus areas and beyond.
Additional activities will include support for Partner recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and managing partner donations.
Qualifications / Skills
2‑4 years of project or program management experience
Strong organizational skills and diligence – must be highly flexible and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent verbal and written communication skills adaptable to the target audience
Ability to work both independently and in teams within a volunteer‑driven organization with strong attention to detail
Efficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
Experience with WordPress, Salesforce a plus
Frequent attendance at meetings and events (occasional evenings)
Commitment to the mission, model and work of Social Venture Partners
Additional Information Social Venture Partners Charlotte is currently operating remotely and has begun to reintroduce in‑person programming; however, the organization requires staff to live in the greater Charlotte metro area to support and attend community and in‑person events, meetings and activities. Several of these events are held in the evenings with ample advanced notice. There may be a future requirement to work collaboratively in a company office facility with staff, board and Partners.
Compensation & Benefits Compensation range: $45,000 – $50,000 annually.
15 paid vacation days in the first year, ten paid holidays, schedule flexibility, continuing education opportunities, a collaborative work atmosphere, with a hybrid in‑person/remote work environment.
