Patient Access Specialist

What You’ll Do
Verify insurance benefits and eligibility for all new referrals.
Perform monthly DSHS coverage checks for long‑term Medicaid patients and weekly verification for capitated Hospice patients.
Review documentation to confirm therapy coverage criteria.
Gather and validate information for accurate forms and reports; collaborate with staff to resolve errors and improve processes.
Prepare cost disclosures and advance beneficiary notices for Medicare patients, and track signed forms.
Generate benefits letters to inform patients of financial responsibility.
Enter new patient and physician data into our software system, including therapy sessions and ICD‑9/ICD‑10 codes.
Obtain PCP referral requests and follow up as needed.
Document payer and billing details in electronic health records.
Secure initial pre‑authorizations per insurance requirements.
Verify physician licensure on an ongoing basis.
Support and incorporate the mission of Sisters of Providence Health System in daily work.
Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives.
Conduct Medicare Part D eligibility and drug formulary checks.
Prepare hospital charity agreements and manage patient financial assistance applications.
What We’re Looking For Experience
1+ year in insurance verification or patient access.
Skills
Strong knowledge of medical terminology and reimbursement processes.
Excellent customer service and communication skills (written and verbal).
Proficiency with EMR systems (Epic experience a plus), word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Ability to type quickly and accurately.
Education High school diploma or GED required.
Preferred Attributes

Job Type & Location Contract to Hire position based out of Spokane, WA.
Pay and Benefits Pay range: $22.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
