SENIOR TRANSPORTATION PLANNER (GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM)
Los Angeles Metro – senior-level position in the Technical Services & Data Department. The role focuses on geospatial analysis, GIS development, and support for transit planning, operations, and capital projects.
Base pay range $79,996.80/yr - $119,995.20/yr
Responsibilities
Supports analysis of transportation projects, programs, and policies, both quantitative and qualitative.
Prepares components of scopes of work, financial plans, schedules, contracts, and agreements.
Schedules and coordinates meetings with Metro departments and external parties.
Participates in meetings with Metro staff, community organizations, cities, and other public agencies.
Assists in negotiations and execution of various agreements.
Manages small to regional projects or funding programs; manages consultant contracts or assists with large contract management.
Manages project schedules, budgets, tasks, and assigned activities.
Conducts analyses and makes policy recommendations.
Provides technical guidance to local jurisdictions and outside agencies on Metro programs.
Assesses costs, benefits, and risks associated with plans, programs, and projects.
Prepares and delivers reports, presentations, and correspondence.
Coordinates with other Metro departments on programs and projects.
Applies, develops, and implements statistical analysis procedures.
Qualifications Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Urban or Transportation Planning, Engineering (civil, transportation, etc.), Business, Public Administration, or related field; Master's preferred.
Experience : Three or more years in transportation planning, project management, urban design, system design, travel simulation, demand modeling, operations planning, or related areas.
Certifications/Licenses : Valid California Class C Driver License or alternative transport method preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
GIS analysis & map/dashboard development for transit planning (AGOL, ArcGIS Dashboards).
Maintenance and analysis of spatial datasets on transit networks and demographics.
Travel demand modeling experience (GTFS, census data, transit surveys).
Big data analytics, Power BI, or similar visualization tools.
Python, R, GISDK, ModelBuilder, or equivalent scripting for GIS workflow automation.
Essential Knowledge
Transportation, planning, land use, and regional planning theory and practice.
Federal, state, and local transportation laws and funding regulations.
Financial, analytical, and statistical research processes.
Project management and planning best practices.
Business software applications and emerging service delivery models.
