Overview
We’re looking for a Technical Animator to define and support the core of our character animation pipeline. The role combines technical rigging in Maya with real‑time animation setup in Unity, ensuring consistent, high‑quality character performance from authoring to runtime. You’ll work across disciplines to make animation tools and systems predictable and efficient for production use.
Responsibilities
Character Rigging & Pipeline
- Build and maintain rigs in Maya with clean controls, consistent hierarchies, and proper deformation.
- Manage skeleton setup, joint orientation, and skin weighting.
- Maintain a stable Maya-to-Unity export pipeline for animation data.
Runtime Animation Systems
- Develop and support runtime rigging setups in Unity.
- Create and maintain animation controllers, including blend spaces, state machines, and animation layers.
- Handle retargeting, runtime fixes, and procedural adjustments as needed.
- Work with engineers to optimize animation systems for performance and flexibility.
Collaboration
- Coordinate closely with the art and engineering teams.
- Ensure animation data is consistent between DCC tools and runtime.
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in workflow, tooling, and animation integration.
Qualifications
- Strong experience with Maya rigging, including control setup, constraints, and deformation.
- Proficient in Unity’s animation system, including runtime rigging, controller design, and Final IK.
- Understanding of skeletons, animation retargeting, and data flow between Maya and Unity.
- Working knowledge of C# for animation logic, tools, or runtime extensions.
- Experience troubleshooting and refining animation playback in-engine.
- Effective communication and problem‑solving skills across technical and art teams.
