Base pay range

$68,000.00/yr - $73,000.00/yr

The Customs Entry Writer is responsible for preparing, filing, and tracking import documentation to ensure compliant and timely clearance of shipments through U.S. Customs and other government agencies. This role requires strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of customs regulations, and an ability to communicate effectively with internal teams, customers, and governmental agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process customs entries for air, ocean, and ground import shipments.
  • Review commercial documents (invoices, packing lists, bills of lading) to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Classify goods using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).
  • Verify duty rates, free trade agreement eligibility, PGA (Partner Government Agency) requirements, and other compliance elements.
  • Submit entries via ACE and monitor for Customs releases, exams, and holds.
  • Communicate with clients regarding shipment status, required documents, and compliance matters.
  • Coordinate with carriers, warehouses, and internal departments to ensure smooth cargo movement.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure all documentation meets Customs and company standards.
  • Stay current on U.S. Customs regulations, rulings, and industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience as a Customs Entry Writer or in a customs brokerage role.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, HTS classification, and PGA requirements.
  • Experience with ACE, ABI software platforms, and standard freight forwarding systems.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple entries and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical abilities.
  • Customs Broker License a strong plus but not required.
