Overview The Technical Designer is responsible for creating and maintaining detailed technical packets that guide the production of fashion apparel. This role involves collaboration with designers, product developers, and manufacturers to ensure that all products are produced to specification, on time, and within budget.
The Technical Designer will link the design department and production to ensure that all designs translate to garments. The role reports directly to the Designer and/or Assistant Designer and includes supporting the fitting process from design to approval, setting up tech packs, measuring and preparing samples for fittings, taking detailed fit notes, generating construction guidelines and clear fit comments to vendors under the direction of the design team.
The ideal candidate is a self‑starter with excellent attention to detail. They are highly organized and can balance multiple projects at once with strong time management skills.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain comprehensive tech packs for new designs, including detailed sketches, materials, construction specifications, and measurements.
Ensure all information is accurate, clear, and complete for manufacturers to follow.
Work closely with design teams to understand product vision and translate it into technical specifications.
Collaborate with sourcing and production teams to select materials and components that meet quality standards and budget constraints.
Serve as a liaison between design, production, and manufacturers, facilitating clear communication regarding technical specifications and production timelines.
Address any questions or issues that arise during the production process.
Review samples and prototypes to ensure they meet the specifications outlined in the tech pack.
Identify and resolve any discrepancies or quality issues during the production phase.
Maintain organized records of all tech packs, revisions, and correspondence with manufacturers.
Update tech packs as needed based on feedback from production and quality assurance teams.
Monitor project timelines and ensure that tech packs are completed and delivered on time to meet production schedules.
Stay informed about industry trends, new materials, and technology that could impact product development.
Requirements
A minimum of three years of experience in Fashion Design, Apparel Production, or a related field is preferred.
Previous experience in product development, technical design, or a related role in the fashion industry.
Strong understanding of garment construction, fabrics, and manufacturing processes.
Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop) and technical design tools.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Attention to detail and ability to problem‑solve effectively.
Enthusiastic about fashion and the production process.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
