Position Summary We are seeking a Magnetic and Motor Design Manager to lead our electromagnetic systems development team. This role requires technical mastery in electromagnetic theory combined with practical experience in manufacturing and test of magnetics and motors. The ideal candidate will be a recognized magnetic design expert who bridges design excellence with manufacturing reality, ensuring all designs are producible at scale while meeting aerospace requirements and maintaining rigorous configuration control.

Responsibilities Technical Leadership

Serve as chief technical authority for electromagnetic design and magnetic circuit optimization

Lead magnetic material selection including rare-earth magnets and soft magnetic composites

Drive high power density motor innovations while ensuring manufacturability

Establish electromagnetic design standards and validation methodologies

Lead customer-facing technical engagements, including requirements capture, design reviews, and executive-level presentations; translate customer needs into actionable specifications

System Integration & Communication

Develop and maintain standardized motor characterization/performance reports, parameter datasets, and equivalent circuit models to support system simulation, performance analysis, and power electronics drive development.

Interface with mechanical, thermal, controls, and power electronics teams

Communicate technical trade-offs and risks to executives and customers

Lead customer-facing technical engagements, including requirements capture, design reviews, and executive-level presentations; translate customer needs into actionable specifications

Facilitate cross-functional and customer design reviews, document decisions and risks, and drive mitigation plans across engineering and manufacturing teams.

Manufacturing & Production

Collaborate with manufacturing to optimize designs for production processes

Manage technical relationships with magnet suppliers and winding vendors

Lead design for manufacturability reviews and cost reduction initiatives

Qualify alternative suppliers for critical magnetic components

Test & Validation

Define comprehensive test strategies including dynamometer, thermal, and life testing

Lead root cause analysis and establish simulation-to-test correlation

Oversee qualification testing per DO-160 and MIL-STD-810

Program & Configuration Management

Manage concurrent motor development programs from concept through production

Lead critical design reviews and gate reviews

Establish and maintain configuration management processes for electromagnetic designs

Oversee configuration baselines and manage engineering change orders

Control design release and change management through production lifecycle

Team Leadership

Build and mentor a team of electromagnetic design engineers

Foster technical excellence while building collaborative relationships

Identify and create technical training, conduct performance evaluations, and establish development plans

Demonstrated success managing technical teams and complex engineering programs

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Qualifications Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (BS) in engineering or a science technical discipline. Master’s or PhD in electrical engineering, physics, or related field with electromagnetics preferred.

10+ years electromagnetic device design experience with demonstrated aerospace motor expertise.

Has prior management/supervisory responsibility for 4 or more years.

Expertise in tools like ANSYS Maxwell, MotorCAD, FLUX, and JMAG

Proven experience with configuration management and PLM systems

Extensive motor testing experience including dynamometer and thermal characterization

Deep understanding of manufacturing processes: magnetization, winding, vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI), assembly

Proven supplier management and production transition experience

Strong knowledge of magnetic materials and demagnetization characteristics

Motor control expertise including field-oriented control and sensor-less techniques

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with high-speed permanent magnet machines

Knowledge of additive manufacturing techniques for magnetic components

Multi-physics optimization and thermal management expertise

Experience with aerospace qualification standards and certification processes

Background in fault-tolerant motor design for critical applications

Technical Competencies

Advanced magnetic circuit analysis and Maxwell's equations application

Motor parameter extraction and equivalent circuit modeling

Manufacturing tolerance analysis for magnetic performance

Configuration management and design revision control

Test correlation and model validation techniques

Multi-physics thermal and electromagnetic modeling

Design-to-cost optimization and trade studies

Failure mode analysis and reliability engineering

Compensation Package We offer a comprehensive and competitive total compensation package. Competitive Compensation: Pay Range: $138,168.00/annually to $241,860.00/annually (California only).
