Our client, a children’s apparel company, is hiring an Assistant Designer, Childrenswear to join their team onsite in NYC. This entry-level role combines administrative, technical, and creative tasks that are essential to the success of the seasonal design process. This individual will contribute to both the day-to-day operations and the broader design development, supporting everything from sample management to presentation preparation.
Responsibilities
Receive and inventory incoming packages containing fabric swatches, trims, and samples
Promptly notify and distribute materials to the appropriate team members
Organize and maintain the sample library, including fabric swatches and trims, ensuring accessibility and proper labeling
Keep the workspace and inventory areas neat, organized, and free of clutter
Attend fittings and take comprehensive notes to share with design and cross-functional teams
Assist with preparing design presentation boards, including printing, assembling, and hanging
Prepare materials and documents for meetings (e.g., line plans, reference sheets)
Perform local errands such as collecting trims, picking up samples, and handling garment finishing tasks (e.g., adding snaps, washhouse runs)
Conduct competitive market research through in-store shopping trips
Track and organize seasonal sample and expense budgets for the design team
Assist with sketching tasks, including drafting, copying, and updating digital layouts
Support entry and maintenance of product data, including the Bill of Materials in PLM
Qualifications
1+ years of experience in Fashion Design or a related field
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
Professional and collaborative interpersonal skills
Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently when needed
Ability to lift and move items up to 25 lbs (e.g., mannequins, boards, packages)
Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, PLM, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Miro
Familiarity with garment construction, flat sketching, fabric, and trim knowledge
Experience with Browzwear is a plus
Salary:
$60k - $65k annually
