Position Information Position Title Position Title The Logos Student Newspaper Assistant Editor (2025-2026) WORKSTUDY Academic Year Academic Year 2025-2026 UIW Mission University of the Incarnate Word is a Catholic institution that welcomes to its community persons of diverse backgrounds, in the belief that their respectful interaction advances the discovery of truth, mutual understanding, self-realization, and the common good. Position Summary The Logos Student Newspaper Assistant Editor is the secondary person in charge of writing, editing, designing The Logos, a student-run newspaper. The Logos Student Newsletter Assistant Editor reports to Faculty advisor for The Logos.
This can be work study or student employment. Essential Functions 1. Cover campus assignments. 2. Write stories. 3. Take photographs. 4. Lay out pages 5. Monitor telephone (answer, take messages, etc.). 6. General clerical duties. 7. Distribute newspapers. 8. Promote newspaper. 9. Update interactive website. 10. Other duties as assigned by Logos student editors and/or advisor (supervisor). Qualifications Knowledge Skills and Abilities Demonstrated knowledge and/or skill in writing, editing, design, and photography. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA . Required Education 1. Be a full-time UIW student during the regular academic year. 2. Have a minimum GPA of 2.5, with a 3.0 in the major discipline. 3. Be at least a sophomore (exceptions may be granted at the discretion of Journalism faculty). Required Work Experience None. Preferred Qualifications Preference given to students with previous high school or college journalistic experience (newspaper, yearbook, magazine, anthology, broadcasting class, website, etc.).
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations None. Work Hours Work hours flexible depending on students’ academic and extracurricular schedules. Physical Demands Typical for this position.
