Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill four part‑time (maximum of 24 hours per week) positions for Library Collection Maintenance Project student assistants for the Valley Library at Oregon State University.

The position will support the multi‑year projects undertaken by the Library’s Collection Maintenance unit to organise the library’s physical collections for easy accessibility as well as space utilisation. This is a physically active position with long hours of standing. Training will be provided.

Position Duties

Assist in analysing and maintaining the physical library collection by organising, identifying items out of order, and reshelving items accurately.

Compile and update an accurate inventory of the physical library materials using Microsoft Excel sheets with a high level of accuracy.

Collaborate with the collection maintenance team to shift and dust library materials, clean library shelves and push a cart with library materials weighing up to 200 lbs.

Communicate clearly with team members and staff to ensure efficient task coordination.

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.

Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.

Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard:

High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home‑schooling program.

Undergraduate and post‑baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term.

Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term.

Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term.

Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term.

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full‑time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the

Office of International Services

(OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications

Employee must be able to perform physically active tasks for up to 3 hours at a time including standing, walking, pushing a cart weighing up to 200 lbs, reaching overhead, and bending down for materials on shelves for 100 % of work shift (excluding break times).

Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student.

Eligible and available to work starting Winter term 2026 through next academic year 2026-2027. Long‑term commitment of 1 + years will provide continuity for this multi‑year project.

Ability to follow instructions and work independently and/or as part of a team.

Attention to detail and organisational skills.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with supervisors and fellow coworkers, both verbally and via email.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Work schedule will accommodate classes and other commitments. Work hours will be within operating hours of the department, Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑5:00 pm. No evenings or weekends.

Minimum 12 hours/week and maximum 24 hours/week during the term.

Optional work available during Summer term and breaks.

Work will be performed throughout the library in both public areas and staff workspaces.

Will work in dusty and dirty conditions. Masks and gloves will be provided.

This is a physically active position which may include some computer/desk tasks.

Rate of pay is $15.60
