Primary/Secondary Supervisor - Engineering and Design Manager/IC&E Manager
Job Position Summary: Assist with design documents involving electrical systems, control systems, instrumentation & motor control distribution for industrial gas processing facilities.
JOB FACTORS General requirements:
Minimum 4+ years of experience in Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control Systems for industrial gas processing facilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required; experience with AutoCAD and PDF editing software is beneficial.
Compliance with federal/state/local law, industry and client standards, and company safety policies.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS Essential Job Functions Technical Support & Standards
Provide technical expertise and support across all projects.
Develop, maintain, and enforce standard processes, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Review departmental work for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards.
Participate in facility design reviews and electrical construction bid package development.
Support training activities to enhance technical capability.
Engage and support IC&E Manager task distribution.
Participate in the development of electrical construction bid packages. Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical (IC&E)
Collaborate with the I&E Manager to establish data entry points for instruments and control function.
Develop instrumentation, I/O controls, and motor control/distribution from standard P&IDs.
Specify and procure electrical instruments and equipment in coordination with project needs.
Electrical Design
Assist in developing electrical deliverables for all project phases (conceptual, preliminary, detailed design).
Support design of facility power distribution systems from electric utility interface point, PLC-based control systems, and miscellaneous electrical systems (lighting, grounding, heat tracing, etc.).
Contribute to preparation of electrical design drawings such as:
Single line diagrams
Power lighting, grounding, control panel, and other system plans.
Electrical equipment arrangement plans
Cable tray layout plans and sections
Conduit and cable schedules
Motor control schematics
Assist with typical electrical specifications (e.g., MV/LV switchgear, MCCs, transformers, generators, UPSs, installation/testing requirements).
Develop and maintain electrical databases/spreadsheets (e.g., motor lists, load lists, instrumentation spreadsheets).
Assist with electrical calculations (e.g., load flow studies, voltage drop, lighting, short circuit & protective device coordination analyses, arc flash and labeling).
Support management of third-party engineering firms, including backchecking their deliverables.
Participate in procurement of electrical and control systems equipment, including preparation of technical data for inquiry packages, technical bid evaluations, and vendor document reviews.
Oversee procurement of equipment required by the I&E department.
Support project construction through meetings, RFIs, and occasional site visits.
Inspect electrical installations and equipment for compliance with engineering documents, specifications, and safety standards.
Assist with development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for electrical systems and equipment.
Supervise yard/shop contractors for electrical fabrication activities.
Other Duties
Perform additional tasks as assigned to support department and project success.
Participate in continuous improvement program.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of electrical design practices and interpretation of P&IDs, electrical drawings, specifications, building/electrical codes, and construction costs/techniques.
Working knowledge of the NEC and applicable electrical codes, with familiarity in industry codes and standards (IEC, ANSI, IEEE, ISA).
Knowledge of NEC/NFPA standards is beneficial.
Knowledge of VFD/motor control equipment beneficial.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with engineers and designers on multiple concurrent projects.
Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills; able to convey ideas clearly and concisely.
Demonstrated accountability – accepts responsibility for actions and follows through on commitments.
Proficiency with personal computers, office networks, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field is valued but not required; equivalent experience and industry knowledge is beneficial.
Primarily office-based, with extended periods of sedentary computer work.
Occasional outdoor activities for equipment inspections and coordination.
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. and perform repetitive hand/finger tasks (typing, mobile communication).
Requires strong visual and auditory attention for design and field work.
