Job Description
This posting is for part-time position at the Sneads Ferry Branch of the Onslow County Public Library, working 20 hours per week.
Performs skilled administrative support work in the public service areas of the public library, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Librarian.
Some weekend and evening work is required.

Position Responsibilities
Assisting customers; operating public service areas; registering customers; shelving books; checking books in and out of library; collecting fees and fines; responding to questions from customers.

Qualifications
Some knowledge of library operations; general knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; ability to perform library tasks and to adhere to prescribed routines; ability to perform routine clerical tasks; ability to operate standard office and computer equipment; ability to operate standard office productivity software such as Microsoft Office, ability to operate various mobile devices such as e-readers, tablets, and smart phones; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and customers.
Education, Experience, and Special Requirements
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school with some customer service experience. Library experience preferred.
Pay rate will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget and market considerations.

North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System

The County contributes 1% of employees' gross salary into the 401(k) account regardless of the employee's deferral amount. In addition, the County matches employee deferrals up to an additional 4%.
Vacation Leave
Regular full-time employees earn 13.5 days of vacation leave per year. With each 5-year increment of employment, vacation accrual increases.

Regular full-time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year.
Paid Holidays
County employees receive paid holidays annually. The Board of County Commissioners approves and may adjust the schedule as deemed necessary.
Teladoc Mental Health Services
The County provides Teladoc Mental Health Services to help employees and their families with personal, family and job-related problems such as depression, and substance abuse concerns.
Supplemental Benefits

- Greets customers; answers customer questions.
- Checks out library materials; Checks in and sorts returned materials; assists customers with renewals and requested items.
- Empties book returns; shelves library materials and straightens shelves; assists with managing library collections.
- Collects fines and fees from customers; ensures transactions to customer accounts are recorded correctly; prepares daily cash report; issues receipts; assesses customer for lost or damaged items.
- Processes library memberships; explains library policies.
- Sends out billing and overdue notices;
- Operates standard office equipment and assists customers with the use of copiers, fax machines, etc.
- Assists customers with on-line catalog use and basic computer use; helps customers find library resources; helps customers fill out forms.
- Oversees volunteers.
- Pulls resources for outreach and in-house programs; may act as an assistant during outreach or in-house programs.
- Receives and directs incoming calls;
- Maintains knowledge of library materials, information resources, current events, and new technologies.
- Monitors library and customer activity; provides assistance in other service areas as necessary
- Provides outreach services to the community; and assists with developing and scheduling special programming.
- Enters a variety of information into computer system; prepares various statistical reports.
- Assists with processing library materials;
- Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteer.
- Performs related tasks as required.
- Processes material for consortium resource sharing.
