Senior Project Director – Major Design Build Projects (Highways/Bridges) At AtkinsRéalis, we are looking for an experienced Senior Project Director to lead major design‑build projects across multiple locations including Alexandria, VA; Atlanta, GA; Austin, TX; Calverton, MD; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Houston, TX; Las Vegas, NV; Henderson, NV; Nashville, TN; Orlando, FL; Raleigh, NC; Tampa, FL.

Responsibilities

Provide professional and project management expertise on highly unconventional projects requiring multiple technical units and/or subcontractors, heavy regulatory agency involvement or extremely complex technical requirements.

Serve as mentor to technical professionals, assist in their training and development.

Perform production coordination, planning, organizing, directing, controlling, financial management, and marketing functions.

Coordinate contract negotiations with clients and subcontractors, drafting complex professional service agreements and arranging for review and execution by senior management. Conduct QCAP reviews of less complicated agreements.

Develop enhanced standards and procedures for project delivery excellence.

Direct project team compliance with contract terms, monitor subcontractors’ progress, performance, and compliance; participate in dispute resolution and litigation concerning project performance; review and approve subconsultant and vendor invoices and resolve payment disputes.

Develop, communicate and manage project quality assurance, administrative procedures, communication guidelines, project deliverable formats and specifications, and progress reporting requirements.

Monitor schedules, billings and reports; ensure proper charging of manhours, costs and expenses to projects; assist in obtaining payment from clients; resolve client disputes and adjust billing records as required; communicate project progress/status to senior management.

Identify new business opportunities, coordinate and present project proposals to clients and external groups, promote firm’s capabilities, market services among existing and prospective clients.

Participate in project opportunity evaluation, consultant selection and preparation of qualification/experience statements.

Coordinate communications between internal and external associates and client, and between firm and regulatory agencies.

Supervise other project managers, technical professionals and design staff, including managing weekly project workload and manpower forecasting.

Conduct project management training workshops and mentor associate project managers and project managers.

Monitor and report financial status of projects to technical managers.

Perform other duties as the supervisor may deem necessary.

Complexity: Management and coordination of large or complex projects involving significant billings, heavy regulatory agency involvement, and unique management requirements or client needs.

Decision‑making: Participation in project opportunity evaluation and consultant selection decisions; review/selection of subconsultant and vendor invoices.

Work direction: Guide, review, supervise, and coordinate the work of a multidisciplinary project team of internal teams and subcontractors.

Internal contacts: Interface with senior technical professionals, technical managers, and administrative staff and managers as needed.

External contacts: Represent the organization to clients, regulatory agencies and the public; maintain contact and visibility with professional, civic, and other organizations to promote the firm.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field of practice; graduate degree preferred. Management coursework and/or MBA a plus. Minimum 15 years experience with at least ten years of design‑build experience in a management position.

Proven interpersonal skills, public speaking and persuasive ability; strong project financial management and team‑management skills; knowledge of production support systems and personal computer proficiency.

Professional Registration in field(s) of practice required, if available. Certification as a “Project Management Professional” (PMP) or “Certified Construction Manager” (CCM) required within one year of assuming this position.

Compensation Expected compensation range is between $190,000 – $220,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
