Job Summary The Social Media Manager is responsible for leading the WesternU College of Pharmacy’s ( COP ) social media presence and operations across all social media platforms. This role is responsible for developing and executing a digital content strategy, ensure consistent coverage of COP events, including but not limited to, at-site or off-site recruitment, commencement, and other major events, and create compelling content that showcases our program to prospective students, current students, alumni, domestic and international pipeline pathways, pharmacy partners, and the community. The ideal candidate will work to ensure that the COP website remains current by updating content as needed in conjunction with the dean’s office. The ideal candidate is a digital-savvy marketer who thrives in a collaborative and friendly environment and can balance independent creativity with performance-driven thinking.
The Social Media Manager position will report to the COP Assistant Dean for External Relations in close collaboration with the COP Assistant Dean for Community Engagement and will be an integral part of the COP development group in the Dean’s Office. The ideal candidate will be expected to interact with the Marketing Department of the university under COP supervision.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficiency with content creation tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook.
Proficiency with social media tools (e.g. Hootsuite, Buffer, Meta Business Suite, etc.)
Basic knowledge of social media analytics and ability to create performance reports.
Knowledge of SEO and paid media advertising.
Knowledge of social media analytics and ability to create and respond to performance reports.
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Professionalism and interpersonal skills to collaborate with students, faculty, alumni, and staff.
Demonstrated ability to create high-quality photography, video, and written content for multiple platforms. If available, resume must include a link to portfolio of work done.
Ability to communicate effectively both with groups and individuals.
Ability to handle detail-oriented assignments and maintain confidentiality.
Required Qualifications
Experience in graphic content design, managing organizational social media accounts for a brand, institution, or nonprofit.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Planning & Platform Management
Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with the College’s mission and goals.
Manage official College of Pharmacy accounts across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, X (Twitter), and YouTube.
Create and maintain a content calendar to ensure consistent posting and balanced coverage of recruitment, student life, faculty achievements, research, alumni engagement, and community outreach.
Stay current on digital industry trends and emerging platforms.
Use market and consumer insights to refine messaging and positioning.
Event Coverage & Coordination
Attend and capture all major College of Pharmacy events (e.g., White Coat Ceremony, Commencement, Poster Day, Ray Symposium, alumni receptions, major recruitment fairs). Some events may/will take place in the evening and on weekends.
Ensure coverage of other College events by coordinating with students, staff, and faculty to obtain quality photos, videos, and stories when personal attendance is not possible.
Proactively identify opportunities to highlight the College through on-campus and community activities.
Content Creation
Produce engaging content including high-quality photography, short-form videos (Reels, TikToks), and on-brand written captions.
Use tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, and/or other similar platforms to design and edit content.
Adapt content for each platform’s best practices and audience preferences.
Collaborate with college creatives and influencers to enhance content.
Maximize paid media through optimization of SEO’s to drive engagement with social media channels.
Analytics & Reporting
Track, analyze, and report performance metrics (engagement, reach, impressions, follower growth, link clicks) using platform insights and scheduling tool analytics.
Translate data into actionable recommendations to improve content strategy.
Provide regular performance updates to the Dean’s Office and relevant stakeholders.
Represent the COP on the university-wide Social Media User Group committee.

As assigned by the supervisor.
Required to assist in staff functions of the COP as needed or as directed by supervisor.
Posting Details Continued Work Schedule
In-Person, Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm, may require some weekends and evenings.
Local travel required.
