Job Summary
Under the general direction and in compliance with standard operating procedures and policies, assists in the development and execution of marketing strategies and multi-platform promotional plans across a variety of digital and offline channels. Engages audiences through established channels and identifies emerging opportunities for communication and collaboration. Schedules, creates, edits, and maintains video, photo, graphic, and written content to support communication and outreach functions. Updates and maintains Parks, Recreation, and Tourism website content. Applies a significant degree of initiative and creative storytelling across all mediums. Assists in marketing communications, including branding and advertising and acts as on-site event coordinator by organizing and directing event staff and volunteers throughout events.
Responsibilities
Perform marketing and social media duties: develop and implement branded advertising and marketing campaigns across web, social, and print platforms; create high‑quality content; manage and oversee digital media accounts; publish tailored content on City social media and websites; respond to messages and comments promptly; maintain visual design elements; ensure alignment with division needs and publicity efforts. Represent department: attend meetings and hearings; present at business, community, and neighborhood groups; conduct outreach for service launch events; provide tours of parks and facilities; partner with non‑profit agencies; solicit feedback from park users and stakeholders; assist staff and consultants in outreach efforts. Create, write, and edit marketing content: attend events to report on projects and initiatives; build internal and external relationships; generate new content across mediums; work with graphics teams to produce and edit audio, video, and written work; manage department websites; update pages and fix functionality issues. Provide data and analysis on marketing campaign performance: research trends and best practices; make data‑based recommendations; set objectives and report results; implement new features to increase brand awareness; stay current with marketing technologies; ensure effective SEO. Manage still and video photography: create, edit, and maintain photo and video content; support stories and media to promote programs and events; use photography and video to capture key functions. Oversee event site logistics: act as on‑site coordinator; train, assign, and supervise recreation and event staff and volunteers; coordinate program and event logistics (equipment set‑up, vendor monitoring); ensure brand compliance. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, parks and recreation management, tourism, public relations, media studies, or a related field. Over two years of professional marketing experience, including social media platforms. CPR, First Aid, and AED certification/training within one year of hire.
Driver's License Requirements
Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License.
Performance Requirements
Knowledge of principles of marketing, advertising, and communications; web platforms; SEO; public engagement best practices; photography and videography vision; customer service principles.
Ability To
Research marketing trends and best practices. Establish relationships with city departments, the public, and stakeholders. Communicate clearly to diverse audiences. Apply written communication, graphical layout, and multimedia techniques. Work independently with effective judgment. Prioritize workload and meet deadlines. Complete high‑profile projects creatively. Conceptualize improved procedures. Co‑ordinate on‑site staff and volunteers during events. Use Adobe Creative Suite, social media platforms, and other city software. Operate city vehicles (incl. golf cart, box truck, trailer). Operate equipment such as light towers, generators, and handcarts. Operate office equipment and Microsoft Office.

Working Conditions
Primary work location: Office environment and outdoor event sites. Protective footwear, clothing, hat, and gloves required at event sites. Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and hazards; seasonal exposure to extreme temperatures and wetness/humidity.
Mental Demands
Time pressures; frequent task changes; multiple simultaneous tasks; irregular schedule; noisy environment; occasional emergency situations.
