Associate Producer, Video & Live Events

Position Description

Delivers high-quality video, audio, and mixed‑media productions that advance Biola’s mission across marketing and academic initiatives. Executes assigned work and leads a selection of projects from pre‑production through delivery. In addition, provides hands‑on support for live events (including setting up equipment and cabling, and operating our switcher, graphics machines, and/or streaming equipment, as needed). Ensures excellent client service, brand stewardship, and reliable operations within UMP standards.

Supervisor

Reports to Assistant Director of Video Production and Digital Media Strategy.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Film/Media/Communication or equivalent combination of education and professional portfolio/experience.

Work Requirements

  • Non‑exempt, full‑time (12 months).
  • Primarily on‑site in La Mirada, CA; limited hybrid schedule may be considered per departmental guidelines.
  • Evening/weekend assignments and travel for productions and events as required.

Essential Duties

  • Execute pre‑production (briefs, schedules, shot lists), production (camera, audio, lighting), and post (editing, sound mix, graphics) on assigned deliverables.
  • Live events: coordinate with event leads to review run‑of‑show; prep and pack kits; set up cameras, switcher, encoders, graphics/lower‑thirds; confirm audio handoff with FOH; verify signal flow, backup recordings, and stream health; operate camera or assist TD during show; strike and restore gear.
  • Lead a subset of projects end‑to‑end with guidance; support larger productions in specialty roles (camera op, AC, AE, editor).
  • Provide on‑set/podium presenter care and basic coaching; uphold a safe, professional set.
  • Maintain UMP project hygiene: intake fields, file naming, media ingest, backups, and delivery packaging (captions, accessibility checks as applicable).
  • Collaborate with teammates and clients; communicate progress, risks, and needs promptly.
  • Perform quality control to brand and technical standards; archive per protocol.
  • All other duties as assigned that are appropriate to the role.

Required Skills / Qualifications

Hard Skills

  • Competency with current cinema/video cameras, lenses, grip, lighting, and audio equipment.
  • Proficiency in NLE (DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Premiere Pro), basic motion graphics (After Effects), audio mixing, and photo editing (Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom or similar).
  • File management, proxies, color‑managed workflows (Rec.709), and captioning basics.
  • Livestream/event fundamentals (switchers, cameras, graphics operation) and basic understanding of SDI and fiber signal flow.
  • Google Workspace and Airtable (or similar PM/AM tools) for schedules and checklists.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication, service mindset, and teamwork across diverse stakeholders.
  • Organization and time management; proactive problem solving.
  • Teachable, adaptable, and calm under production pressure; upholds confidentiality.

Physical/Other

  • Able to regularly and safely lift production equipment and cases (at least 50 pounds), including lifting lights weighing up to 20 pounds overhead.
  • Comfortable with extended standing, cable management, and frequent setup/strike in event environments.
  • Able to work safely at heights — on ladders, scissor lifts, and rooftops — as necessary when running cabling for large events.
  • California Driver’s license and ability to pass Biola’s Motor Vehicle requirements.

Other Desired Duties / Skills

  • Experience and comfort with still photography is a big plus.
  • FAA Part 107 sUAS Remote Pilot Certification.
  • Photography, podcast production, or design skills; YouTube/CMS upload packaging.

$21.96 - 25.00 per hour
