Society of Professional Journalists is hiring: Audience Reporter-Producer in San

AUDIENCE REPORTER-PRODUCER The Express-News newsroom is seeking an enterprising, audience-focused and versatile journalist to manage and create content serving San Antonio, South Texas and beyond. Reporter-producers aggregate and report general assignment, trending and breaking news stories; curate and package stories from multiple sources, including the editorial staff; and publish across all digital platforms, including our website, app, newsletters, and social media accounts.
Your duties on the team: Write original stories intended to grow our audience. Reporting topics will lean heavily into content types that have demonstrated value with subscribers and non-subscribers alike.
Plan for, post and package stories on Express-News platforms. This requires sharp news judgment and fluency with real-time analytics. Tasks include adding links, photos, and other related assets to stories, and sending breaking news emails and app alerts.
Help compile newsletter campaigns and post to social media accounts.
Monitor and act on website analytics, making content decisions that drive audience trust and growth.
Write compelling headlines for digital audiences, optimized for search engines and social platforms.
Contribute to digital projects, including photo galleries, guides and more. Work with digital project managers, editors and writers on innovative packages and new ways of storytelling.
Skills you bring to the team: Working knowledge of tactics to maximize reach and build an audience.
Understanding of best practices for audience engagement and the ability to implement that knowledge.
Idea generation and collaboration: Keep fresh ideas flowing and work with others to shape ideas into compelling stories that connect with readers across the region.
Excellent writing and communication chops.
Top-notch organization skills, assuring audience needs and deadlines are met.
Requirements: Some news writing experience and familiarity with AP Style.
Awareness of media standards around fair use and accurate citation for content.
Knowledge of web and social media analytics tools, content management systems and search optimization platforms.
Sound news judgment and strong understanding of local content
Ability to work effectively in an organization that emphasizes teamwork
Demonstrated success working in a deadline-driven environment.
Proven ability to effectively juggle multiple tasks and/or projects
This is a full-time position and includes working one weekend day. Other shifts or hours may be required as news warrants.
