About the Ella Sharp Museum The Ella Sharp Museum, founded in 1965, offers programs, exhibits and experiences preserving community history, advancing art appreciation, and understanding, and connecting children with science. Our 6-acre campus includes the Hadwin Center with exhibit galleries, program spaces, offices and a museum store; the Merriman Sharp farmhouse, a one-room schoolhouse, a log cabin, two 19 th century barns and other historic structures; and the Hurst Planetarium. Our mission focuses on providing opportunities to connect our community with history, the arts, and science.

About this position The

Communications Coordinator

plays a pivotal role in advancing the Museum's mission by developing and implementing effective communication strategies, creating visually compelling materials, and building relationships with community. This dynamic position requires creativity, strategic thinking, and excellent organizational skills to promote the Museum’s exhibits, programs, and events while fostering donor and sponsor engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Marketing and Branding:

Develop and execute marketing strategies to promote museum events, exhibits, and programs. Design all graphic materials, ensuring alignment with the Museum’s branding standards. Create promotional content for social media platforms, email campaigns, newsletters, and the Museum website.

Communication and Media Outreach:

Write and distribute press releases and coordinate media campaigns to enhance public visibility. Build relationships with local and regional media outlets to secure coverage. Create and distribute a monthly bulletin highlighting Museum activities and opportunities.

Content Creation & Graphic Design:

Produce high-quality marketing materials, including posters, brochures, and digital assets. Develop innovative content ideas to engage audiences and attract visitors.

Grant Writing and Sponsorship:

Research grant opportunities that support Museum programs, exhibits, education, events, and operations; write and submit compelling grant proposals with narratives, budgets, and required documents; maintain a detailed grant calendar to track deadlines and reporting requirements; and collaborate with internal teams to gather program data and outcomes. This role also prepares midyear and final grant reports, identifies sponsorship opportunities, develops tailored materials to engage donors and corporate partners, and supports donor stewardship through communication, impact summaries, and recognition materials.

Public Relations and Media Outreach:

Write and distribute press releases to local and national media outlets. Cultivate relationships with media representatives and influencers to promote the Museum’s initiatives. Act as the Museum’s spokesperson for public-facing communications when necessary.

Event Promotion and Support:

Collaborate with event teams to create promotional plans and materials for Museum-hosted activities. Assist in event planning, execution, and on-site coverage as needed.

Strategic Marketing Projects:

Develop and manage long-term marketing campaigns aimed at increasing attendance, revenue, and donor engagement. Analyze marketing campaign performance to inform future strategies.

Desired Qualifications:

Preferred degree in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s

Proven experience in marketing management and content creation.

Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva).

Experience with social media management tools and digital analytics (Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics, Sprout, etc.).

Experience writing grants, sponsorship proposals, or donor-facing communications.

Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail, particularly in consumer-facing content.

Customer-first mindset with a passion for creating memorable community moments.

Willingness to challenge conventional brand content.

Ability to work effectively in a team setting within the department and collaborate across the organization.

Ability to work with internal and external partners.

Must pass background check

This position requires the ability to do one or more of the following throughout the day: stand, walk, sit, bend and reach above and below shoulder level, and lift/carry 50 lbs. The position involves frequent repetitive motion (keyboard entry, credit card machine.). The noise level in the work environment is variable and unpredictable, ranging from quiet to loud with frequent interruptions.
