Job Summary

The Library Associate 3 is a senior position within the Library Associate job family. The role may supervise Junior Library Associates and is primarily responsible for programming, circulation desk duties, and providing excellent customer service. Additional duties include planning and facilitating library programs and coordinating volunteers.

Hours worked per week: 25

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service to patrons by greeting, giving tours, and assisting in all library areas
  • Supervise junior Library Associates (performance management, evaluations, interviewing/hiring, training, time‑sheet approvals)
  • Work closely with librarians and management to plan, implement, and promote programming activities
  • Process newly acquired library materials (stamping, labeling, RIDF, covers)
  • Inform patrons of library rules, enforce rules as necessary
  • Maintain circulation records and oversee mailing of materials to homebound or other programs
  • Process damaged materials to maintain collection quality
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures
  • Support reference desk in assisting patrons
  • Coordinate volunteers, assign duties, provide necessary training
  • Apply knowledge of the ALA Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read, and Freedom to View statements and support patron discretion of materials
  • Follow legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Three years of library experience preferred
  • One–year supervisory experience preferred
  • Proficiency with library systems and databases
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Multilingual speaking a plus
  • High proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) desired
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work a regular schedule that may include days, evenings, and weekends

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent movement within the location; file and retrieve books/items on high shelves
  • Lift, push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds; work in confined spaces; walk, bend, stoop, reach, climb
