Assistant Professor of Music – Music and Technology

The Newcomb Department of Music in the School of Liberal Arts at Tulane University is hiring an Assistant Professor (tenure‑track) specializing in music and technology. This position focuses on contemporary music production, digital sound technologies, and the history and practice of music technology. The successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing development of the Music and Technology BFA and the design of a potential new MFA.

Start date: July 1, 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music technology (2‑2 load), covering digital production, sound recording, history of electronic and computer music, acoustics, sound design, digital music ensemble, interactive media, sound studies, etc.
  • Supervise student projects and internships.
  • Develop and maintain an innovative research, publication, and creative agenda.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administration to further the BFA in Music and Technology and design a new MFA.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary discussions on music and technology within the department and the university.
  • Participate in service activities at the departmental, school, and university levels.
  • Assist in the supervision and maintenance of the department’s music and technology facilities and equipment.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in music, music technology, or a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of contemporary music production, recording techniques, digital sound technologies, and music technology history.
  • Active research agenda that informs creative practice and results in scholarly publications.
  • Track record of creative production, performance, or other nationally recognized creative output.
  • Commitment to teaching and mentorship.
