Position Overview The Cumberland County Public Library plays an important role in serving residents and surrounding communities by providing access to diverse informational and recreational materials, as well as innovative programs that enrich learning and connection. The Senior Librarian/Branch Manager leads the daily operation and long-term administration of our North Reginal Branch Library, ensuring exceptional service delivery and a welcoming environment for all patrons. This role oversees all aspects of branch management, including strategic planning, staff supervision, and the coordination of community programs. The position also provides mentorship and guidance to staff across the library system and contributes to key system-wide initiatives that strengthen overall library services. Examples of Duties
Hires, supervises, trains, evaluates, supports, and schedules branch staff to ensure policies and procedures are followed and library goals are met Creates work schedules, assigns and reviews work, establishes performance standards, provides direction and guidance, training, and evaluating performance for all staff assigned to the branch Oversees all branch services including Adult Services, Youth Services, Circulation, programming, and outreach Ensures safety and security for all customers (including that the building and grounds are maintained) Monitors facility maintenance and coordinates the repair or replacement of furniture and equipment Responds to emergency alarms and or alerts and guides staff and citizens in appropriate response Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in library science and three and a half (3½) years of professional library experience to include two (2) years of supervisory experience in a library setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Managers Preference : Management experience in a public library setting is preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of public services in modern public libraries; including knowledge of principles and methods of supervision Knowledge of collection development principles and practices in a public library setting Knowledge of public library automation systems and technology; high Level of Computer literacy Ability to interpret and explain an extensive variety of data and information and deal with abstract and concrete variables Ability to analyze statistical data Ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, and administer library policies and procedures Ability to organize, train, and oversee the work of a group of professional, paraprofessional, and clerical subordinates in the activities of the library and to use good judgment in communication and maintaining effective working relationships Ability to communicate tactfully with the public and staff and to relate library services to the needs of the community in an effective manner Ability to manage project timelines, resources, staff with little direction; ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or government regulations Ability to make quick decisions and handle emergencies Ability to address criticism, answer questions and mitigate customer disputes with tact and diplomacy Ability to treat people with respect, work with integrity, and uphold organizational values Ability to express ideas effectively orally and in writing Ability to work cooperatively as a team leader or member Ability to understand and monitor budgets Ability to operate a motor vehicle
