Position Overview Cumberland County Public Library is dedicated to serving our community with enriching resources, diverse materials, and innovative programming that inspires learning and connection. As a Librarian II in Adult Services, you will play a key role in delivering advanced library support at the Adult Services desk, helping patrons access information, technology, and lifelong learning opportunities. This position also leads the supervision, training, and scheduling of Adult Services staff, ensuring exceptional service and a collaborative team environment. Examples of Duties
Hires, supervises, trains, evaluates, and schedules permanent and temporary staff Oversees recruitment tasks, including screening applications, interviewing, conducting reference checks, and completing hiring documentation Assigns daily tasks and project responsibilities to ensure efficient workflow Compiles and maintains departmental reports, records, and statistical data Serves on or leads committees, councils, grant projects, and special initiatives Provides leadership within the branch and models professional performance and behavior Supervises staff and manages branch operations in the absence of the Branch Manager, serving as Team Lead when assigned Delivers advanced reference assistance, readers' advisory, and customer technology support, including troubleshooting equipment Develops and presents public programs, computer classes, and one-on-one instructional sessions; may transport and set up materials for events Creates and delivers staff training on reference services, technology, databases, readers' advisory, and monthly campaign topics Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in Library Science and one (1) year of professional library experience, preferably including six months of supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of current materials, literature and trends, technology and developments in library services Knowledge of OCLC software Knowledge of the organization of the Department, and of related departments and agencies Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern library operations, policies and procedures Knowledge of established cataloging, serials, and acquisitions principles, practices, and methods Knowledge of established genealogical and family history research methods and resources Knowledge of current preservation and conservation standards Knowledge of archival and digitization standards and practices Knowledge of relevant periodicals, newspapers and electronic services in an assigned area Ability to interpret an extensive variety of data and information and abstract and concrete variables Ability to perform library functions via automated public catalog and circulation system Ability to understand, use, and assign subject headings and indexing schemes Ability to express ideas effectively, orally and in writing Ability to maintain effective relationships with staff, customers and the community. Ability to operate a motor vehicle
