Job Description
The University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications invites a dynamic Multimedia Meteorologist to join the national‑level weather broadcasting team. This role involves producing and presenting live and recorded severe weather coverage for television, radio, digital and social media across Florida and South Carolina, as well as mentoring students in the Meteorologists‑in‑Training Program.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and present daily forecast products for radio and TV, and for digital, social and mobile platforms.
- Deliver compelling weather content across multiple media outlets, including WRUF-AM/FM/TV, WUFT-TV/FM, the Florida Public Radio Emergency Network (FPREN), and partner networks.
- Interpret meteorological data, maps and models to create reliable forecasts.
- Mentor UF students through the Meteorologists‑In‑Training Program.
- Utilize Baron graphics or equivalent technology for weather graphics.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in Baron graphics systems or comparable weather computer programs.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in journalism/communications with a strong understanding of weather forecasting/meteorology.
- Two years of broadcasting experience and science/environmental reporting.
- National Weather Association (NWA) or American Meteorological Society (AMS) seals.
- Experience using social media and digital platforms to disseminate weather information.
Salary
$65,000.00
