Multimedia Meteorologist

Join the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications to become part of the Nation’s Most Innovative Weather Broadcasting Team! This full‑time position is based at the Main Campus in Gainesville, FL and offers the opportunity to work on live and produced severe weather coverage for public television and radio stations throughout Florida and South Carolina.

Job Description

As a Multimedia Meteorologist you will produce and present daily forecast products for radio, TV, digital, social media, and mobile platforms. Your work will help millions of viewers and listeners by delivering clear, urgent, and accurate weather information during extreme events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and present daily forecast products to be distributed on radio and TV in addition to digital, social, and mobile platforms.
  • Deliver compelling weather content across a diverse media portfolio, including WRUF‑AM/FM/TV, WUFT‑TV/FM, the Florida Public Radio Emergency Network (FPREN), and partner social media platforms.
  • Provide content on all platforms, utilizing all available technological tools; interpret weather data, reports, maps, and models to create reliable forecasts.
  • Mentor and guide UF students through our Meteorologists‑In‑Training Program – Immersive Experiences.
  • Proficiency in using Baron graphics (or other technology) is a must.

Expected Salary

$65,000.00

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Baron graphics systems (or other related weather computer programs).
  • Understanding the importance of weather information and public safety information when using social media, digital, and web platforms.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work on multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism/communications with a strong understanding of weather forecasting/meteorology.
  • Two years of broadcasting experience and science/environmental‑related reporting.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to think big outside the box.
  • National Weather Association (NWA) or American Meteorological Society (AMS) seals.
