as a Distribution Designer 2 – Grid and lead and support engineering teams in the design, review, and implementation of overhead and underground distribution facilities.
Responsibilities
Prepare and review construction sketches and work packages for overhead and underground distribution facilities (4 kV through 38 kV).
Conduct pole‑loading analyses, voltage‑drop, and flicker calculations.
Plan cable‑pulling activities and prepare bills of material.
Develop cost estimates and coordinate joint‑use, traffic‑control plans, and permit drawings.
Support preliminary project scoping and perform field work as needed.
Assist in maintenance and recapitalization of distribution components.
Plan, design, and oversee modifications and complex tasks within the system.
Provide construction support and client communication when necessary.
Qualifications
Associates degree in design or a 4‑year non‑engineering degree.
At least 6 years of experience in electric‑utility distribution or comparable work that includes reviewing others’ work.
Knowledge of physical distribution design methods and their application.
Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and distribution software such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, PoleForeman, and others.
Knowledge of design codes and standards: NESC, NEC, ANSI, IEEE, GIS / GWD.
Experience with complex overhead and underground projects (120/208 V through 38 kV).
Strong communication skills and ability to lead a project team.
Separate from sponsorship constraints: Sargent & Lundy does not sponsor work authorization in the U.S. for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in utility‑distribution inspections and/or construction.
Familiarity with various distribution design/analysis software.
Familiarity with GIS software.
