Junior Mechanical CAD Designer Location: Downers Grove, IL

Industrial Kinetics designs and builds engineered to order conveyor and material handling systems. In this role, you'll begin by learning our products, CAD standards, fabrication practices, and design processes. As you develop, you will take on more engineering responsibility including concept design, calculations, component selection, problem solving, and eventually full ownership of machine designs. In addition to the CAD role, this is a role designed to grow and develop into a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.

Competitive salary: The hiring range for the role is $60,000-$65,000 annually and will be dependent on experience, skills and education

Position Summary Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position will assist in developing custom machine and conveyor concepts and support senior engineers with design calculations and mechanism development. You will be able to learn about conveyor, sheet metal design, and fabrication constraints.

Responsibilities

Begin with SolidWorks modeling, detail drawings, and subassembly design

Learn IK conveyor standards, sheet-metal design, and fabrication constraints

Support senior engineers with design calculations and mechanism development

Assist in developing custom machines and conveyor concepts

Produce clean, accurate fabrication and assembly drawings

Participate in design reviews, brainstorming, and problem-solving sessions

Learn how designs move through fabrication, assembly, installation, and service

Grow into full project ownership (concept → design → fabrication → installation)

Requirements

This position requires applicants to be legally authorized to work in the United States. No visa sponsorship is available at this time.

Associates or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

SolidWorks proficiency (academic experience acceptable)

Fundamental understanding of machine elements

Curiosity, mechanical intuition, and eagerness to learn

Interest in conveyor systems, automation, or custom machinery

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Desire to grow into a senior engineering role (not a pure CAD role)
