Assistant Director, Creative Services
Position Summary
Rice University is looking for an Assistant Director to support the visual storytelling and digital content strategy for Rice Athletics, primarily for women’s basketball and selected Olympic sports. The role focuses on creating high‑quality video, photo and digital content that supports recruiting, fan engagement and brand visibility across multiple platforms.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in communications, digital media, graphic design, marketing, public relations or a related field
1+ years of relevant professional experience
Skills
Strong experience in video and photo production for digital platforms
Experience managing social media platforms or digital content calendars
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop
Strong organizational, communication and time‑management skills
Ability to work evenings, weekends and travel as required
Must be able to travel with women’s basketball and for limited post‑season events
Must thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment
Preferences
Working knowledge of graphic design and visual layout
Prior experience supervising professional staff, student employees or entry‑level creatives
Familiarity with collegiate athletics or sports production environments
Experience with motion graphics and advanced post‑production workflows is a plus
Essential Functions
Serve as the primary creative lead for women’s basketball, including video, photo and digital content
Manage and execute women’s basketball social media content, including planning, scheduling and real‑time coverage
Support content creation and social media management for assigned Olympic sports
Create highlights, features, promotional edits and recruiting‑related content throughout the year
Travel fully with women’s basketball; limited post‑season travel with Olympic sports
Supervise and support a Creative Digital Media Specialist
Collaborate with other departments within Athletics to meet day‑to‑day content needs
Support department‑wide initiatives, photoshoots and events
