Geographic Information Systems Coordinator

County of San Diego, Office of Emergency Services – “Geographic Information Systems Coordinator” position. Future Salary Increases June 26, 2026 – 4.49% increase to base pay (3.00% Across‑Board + 1.49% Market Increase) June 25, 2027 – 4.49% increase to base pay (3.00% Across‑Board + 1.49% Market Increase) Responsibilities The GIS Coordinator administers and operates the county’s Geographic Information System, develops strategic plans with executive management, and coordinates data sharing with local, state, national, and international groups. The role provides supervisory support, technical expertise, and training to staff, and integrates new data into existing GIS layers. Desirable Traits Leadership Team Builder Effective Communication Knowledge Worker Decision Maker Strategic Perspective Coaches and Develops Ethical Behavior Maximizes Team Effectiveness Supportive of Change Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, in geography, earth sciences, civil engineering, urban planning, information technology, computer science, or a closely related field, OR a college‑level GIS certificate. Experience: Two (2) years as a Senior GIS Analyst or equivalent within the County of San Diego, with one (1) year at a lead or supervisory level, OR five (5) years of full‑time experience administering and operating a GIS system in a large organization, with one (1) year at a lead or supervisory level. Note: Additional experience may substitute for education on a year‑for‑year basis; completion of related coursework may substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Required Licenses, Certifications or Registrations License: Valid California Class C driver’s license at time of appointment or ability to arrange transportation for field travel. Certification/Registration: None required. Veteran’s Preference Policy The County of San Diego offers preferential credits for military service to assist qualified applicants in transitioning from military to civilian careers within the County.
