Operations Communication Specialist
Maryland Department of Transportation and the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) are seeking a dynamic Operations Communication Specialist to provide critical support to control centers. The position is essential to mission‑essential functions and may require work overnight, weekends, and holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
Receive, process, coordinate, and notify MTA customers and Operations Management of service delays and disruptions via e‑news alerts, MTA webpage, station announcements, and internal hyperalert notifications.
Monitor systems in the Control Center for conditions that could affect MTA service, including traffic monitoring via city traffic cameras, Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL) system, and public address (PA) systems at Metro Subway Link and Light Rail Link stations.
Dispatch service updates and other information received from Control Centers for Bus, Light Rail Link, and Metro Subway Link through radio, phone, and computer channels in a professional and courteous manner.
Investigate and communicate to the public service incidents due to accidents, mechanical issues, outages, and other delays.
Qualifications:
High school graduation or equivalency certificate.
Four years of administrative or professional work experience, with at least two years in customer service including dispatching or delivering important information to the general public.
Experience with monitoring traffic cameras, AVL, PA systems, or related communication technology is preferred.
Bilingual applicants are encouraged.
Notes:
Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of required experience.
Candidates may substitute a bachelor’s, master’s, or U.S. Armed Forces military service experience for the required experience.
