Job Function: Marketing, Public Relations, and Writing/Editing (Higher Education)
Overview The Manager of Writing and ELL Support Services will assume responsibility for the day‑to‑day management of the Fredericksburg Writing Center and the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) Online Drop‑in Writing Center. The incumbent will provide writing assistance to students during individual and group sessions during day and evening hours, and deliver on‑campus and online specialized group instruction including citation style workshops, grammar workshops, vocabulary reviews, peer editing sessions, research methodology, and tutorials focused on specific writing topics.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Manage daily operation of the Academic Center for Excellence On‑Campus and Online Writing Centers
Manage academic intervention for students in writing intensive courses
Manage academic intervention for students in gateway English courses
Supervise writing support specialists and writing tutors
Develop academic support programs and resources for writing students
Develop academic support programs and resources for ESL students
Provide writing instruction to students on‑campus and online
Serve as a liaison between the Academic Center for Excellence and faculty in the English Department
Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's / Required Qualifications
Competency in all writing topics ranging from English composition, grammar, rhetoric, scientific writing, argumentative writing, research papers, creative writing, literary analysis, and poetry
Tutoring and/or teaching experience in higher education
Supervisory experience preferred
Ability to develop, organize, manage, and execute projects
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Internet Explorer
Familiarity with online information, teaching, and learning environment
Strong oral and written communication skills required
Excellent organizational and judgment skills required
Additional Considerations
Bachelor of Arts degree in English or related field
Experience teaching or tutoring in higher education preferred
Vehicle Operation Operation of a State Vehicle: No
