Library Access Services Specialist (On Site - University Center, MI) The successful candidate must demonstrate experience, skills, and commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity and inclusion in students, faculty and staff.

The Library Access Services Specialist reports to the Library Manager and is responsible for all aspects of circulation, course reserves, and interlibrary loan, both day-to-day and long-term planning. The role requires excellent public relations/customer service skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

Circulation

Oversee day-to-day operations and provide service desk coverage

Maintain all patron records

Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate circulation student assistants

Perform collection maintenance including shifting, shelving, and shelf reading

Attend and participate in VLC database meetings

Keep current on Polaris trainings; train, answer questions, and troubleshoot for other staff; keep all relevant manuals current

Compile daily, monthly, and annual circulation statistics

Reserves

Process reserves in a timely manner

Review the list of reserve material with faculty annually

Provide assistance with loanable technology and open educational reserves

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Oversee day-to-day operations of the interlibrary loan department

Process all OCLC requests; assist with MeL and VLC lending/borrowing

Process overdue notices and troubleshoot Interloan issues or problems

Send invoices; track and pay for lost items

Compile monthly and annual Interloan statistics and reports

Work with college departments and outside libraries on billing for lost materials

Use Colleague to add charge for lost items to student account

Reconcile charges quarterly with Financial Services

Other Managerial Responsibilities

Work with OCLC, Polaris, DCB, Excel, Colleague, and Access

Attend staff meetings and participate in team management

Monitor emerging trends and best practices in libraries and identify practical applications

Attend workshops and professional development activities

Know library and college services and policies

Serve on committees when assigned

Core Hours

This position core hours are: Fall/Winter Hours: Sunday 12:00pm – 6:00pm Monday – Thursday 11:00am – 8:00pm Hours differ in spring/summer and between semesters

Required Qualifications

Ability to learn new technology easily and apply learning to the position

1 – 3 years of position related experience
