Instructor/Assistant Professor of Art - Tenure Track

Provide high quality and engaging instruction in first- and second-year Art courses to a mix of majors and non-majors.

Position typically requires a teaching load of the equivalent of 30 credits/academic year. Priority is on excellent teaching including online instruction, synchronous delivery, along with advising, assessment, service, student recruitment, curriculum development, articulation with high school and university faculty and professional development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Teach first- and second-year courses in Art primarily face-to-face on campus, but occasionally in virtual, and online settings (Drawing I, Design:2D, Design: Color, Art History I and II, Introduction to Art, sophomore level Painting, Printmaking, Life Drawing, and Drawing II).
  • Assist in the on-going development and assessment of curriculum and develop course syllabi for assigned courses.
  • Evaluate student performance and achievement of course, program, and all-college student learning outcomes.
  • Assist with academic advising and other related activities (advise students, hold office hours, support registration, and coordinate student consultation).
  • Serve on College committees as requested and contribute to program, division and department meetings.
  • Maintain a high level of content knowledge and engage in ongoing professional development in relation to one’s field and teaching.
  • Demonstrate mutual respect and civility and coordinate activities to promote the highest level of student learning and productive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administration, and community members.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master of Fine Arts in a 2-D specific discipline (Drawing & Painting, Printmaking) from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Two years of effective classroom teaching experience in fine art and art history at the collegiate level.
  • A high level of personal artistry in artistic mediums, in particular, two-dimensional art.
  • Experience in gallery operations and management—exhibition planning, design, and installation.
  • Proficiency in written, oral, and interpersonal communications and skills in developing rapport with students.
  • Experience in promoting learning in and/or out of the classroom and demonstrating commitment to assessment of student academic achievement.
  • Experience in delivering distance education, hybrid, and/or online classes and ability to effectively work independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated willingness to participate in a collaborative team approach to education and commitment to continued professional development.
  • Successful applicant will be required to pass an acceptable criminal background check.

Preferred Training & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in Adobe Suite software and professional photographic documentation of artwork.
  • Curriculum development experience and understanding of the community college mission.
  • Ability to plan and facilitate student extracurricular activities and trips.
  • Experience in delivering distance education, hybrid, and/or online classes and proficiency in computer applications.
  • Advising and student support experience.
