Instructor/Assistant Professor of Music – Tenure Track
Tenure‑track faculty position in a multi‑faculty, highly visible, NASM‑accredited music program at Northwest College. Provide high quality and engaging instruction in freshman and sophomore courses in Choral Music, Jazz and Contemporary Voice, Jazz Piano, and the core curriculum of the music program.
Position typically requires a teaching load of the equivalent of 30 credits per academic year. Primary emphasis is to provide effective leadership and organization for a comprehensive choral and vocal program that includes classical, jazz, and popular styles. Priority is placed on excellent teaching—including online instruction and synchronous delivery—along with advising, assessment, service, student recruitment, curriculum development, articulation with high‑school and university faculty, and ongoing professional development activities.
Position begins Fall 2026. Faculty orientation: 8/20–8/21/2026.
Responsibilities
- Direct a traditional college choir.
- Direct vocal jazz and contemporary vocal ensembles.
- Teach and/or oversee applied lessons in jazz, contemporary and classical voice, jazz piano, and composition.
- Provide high quality, engaging instruction across all courses.
- Assist in the ongoing development and assessment of curriculum.
- Develop course syllabi, varied instruction techniques, and promote learning to achieve expected outcomes.
- Evaluate student performance and achievement of course, program, and college learning outcomes.
- Recommend appropriate texts and teaching aids that enhance the teaching‑learning process.
- Advise students and support them in program‑related activities.
- Post and observe office hours for academic advising and student consultation.
- Assist students during the ongoing registration process.
- Serve on college committees as requested, elected, or assigned.
- Contribute to program, division, and department meetings and program events.
- Maintain a high level of content knowledge and engage in ongoing professional development in the music field.
- Maintain state‑of‑the‑art knowledge and competence in appropriate academic disciplines.
- Demonstrate mutual respect and civility, coordinating activities to promote the highest level of student learning and productive working relationships.
- Contribute to positive program articulations with schools and colleges.
- Actively participate in maintaining accreditation standards required for the Music program.
- Assist in recruiting activities for the Music program.
- Work closely with other music faculty.
- Assist others on an as‑needed basis.
- Participate in college activities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
