CVP – Instructional Design Lead

Role Overview The Instructional Design Lead supervises instructional design staff, manages course development and design processes, evaluates course design, and applies best practices related to teaching and learning via NYLIC University. The Lead manages the workflow of online course development, assigns staff to projects, reviews and documents course development and other services provided by instructional design staff. The Lead works closely with the Curriculum Lead, Project Manager, and Creative team, provides progress reports, maintains instructional design records, and builds relationships with stakeholders to promote collaboration and accountability. The role drives the creation of innovative learning solutions and leverages AI‑powered tools (ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, etc.) to enhance instructional design processes, streamline content development, and personalize learning experiences for diverse audiences.
What You’ll Do
Supervise instructional design staff and manage course development and design processes for NYLIC University.
Collaborate with the NYL instructional community across online, blended, and face‑to‑face modalities to enhance the learning experience.
Partner with faculty and instructional designers to develop online and blended courses, ensuring course quality through appropriate blends of modalities, technology, learning theory, and instructional design practices.
Provide consultations and serve as a resource to faculty on learning outcomes, course modality, high‑impact practices, accessibility, and assessment strategies.
Support faculty use of instructional technologies through training, tutorials, troubleshooting, and other support services.
Integrate AI‑powered assistants (ChatGPT, Copilot, and similar platforms) into content design workflows to accelerate research, generate draft content, automate formatting, and create adaptive learning modules.
Perform official reviews of online courses and other instructional materials, recommending revisions that align with best practices or standards and the expected learning outcomes.
Maintain competence by reading professionally, networking with peers, attending professional development courses, and completing supervisor‑required training.
Contribute to the overall success of NYLIC University by performing all other duties as assigned.
Occasionally travel for short‑duration workshops and off‑site meetings.

Experience conducting stakeholder needs/gap analysis.
Experience creating blended learning experiences (PPT, Prezi, facilitator guides, scavenger hunt apps, QuickMobile).
Proficiency in all phases of eLearning development—outline, design document, scripting, storyboarding, development, audio/video editing, publishing, quality assurance using multiple authoring tools (Articulate 360, Captivate, Camtasia, Poll Everywhere, Adobe Creative Cloud suite).
Ability to create animated, drawn, and realistic videos (Prezi Next, Vyond, Camtasia, VideoScribe, Aframe).
Strong ability to evaluate and integrate AI technologies for content generation, adaptive learning, and instructional design automation.
Familiarity with Copilot integration within Microsoft 365 tools for collaboration, content creation, and productivity optimization.
Strong analytical skills for assessing AI‑enhanced learning solutions using data‑driven insights.
Excellent written and communication skills.
Conceptual and innovative thinking.
Proficiency in project management.
Experience designing virtual classroom experiences.
High degree of decision‑making and independence.
Preferred field training experience.
Advanced technical knowledge in areas such as Life Insurance, Business Insurance, Annuities, Long‑Term Care, Retirement, Estate, and Registered Products to develop tailored training applications.
Required Skills
Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent experience.
7 years of relevant experience.
Proficiency in eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate and Captivate to create eLearning; video/audio editing skills using tools such as Adobe Premiere, Audition, After Effects.
Pay Transparency Salary Range: $117,500 – $160,000
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Actual base salary will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
