Responsibilities

Perform troubleshooting and correct malfunctions.

Conduct various tests or experiments, selecting, setting up, and operating standard test equipment and recording test data.

Perform electrical work on ships, boats, and marine equipment, including repairing wiring to power a ship’s engine and navigation systems.

Maintain engineering records, such as test data, drawings, and computed values.

Execute routine mechanical tests such as tensile or hardness tests, operating and adjusting simple test equipment.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent.

Active DoD Secret clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one.

Background investigation clearance to access shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS) with a passing drug screening.

OSHA 10 certification or the ability to obtain it.

Respirator qualification and PPE use throughout the shift.

Experience in electrical work and shipboard service.

Two years of combined experience in the following areas:

Attaching fiber optic, RJ‑45, DB‑type connectors

Reading tradesperson‑level drawings

Training lower‑tech personnel

Implementing safety programs and SRAR qualifications

Preliminary QA testing, MCTs, space closeouts

Multipin competency

Electrical testing requirements such as ground checks and RSPT testing

Layout and cutting of electrical enclosures, hook‑ups, and meter knowledge

Drawing reading at apprentice level

Band/pack MCTs and RISE layout

Small equipment mounting

Tool proficiency, QA documentation, and meter usage

Active participation in safety surveillance and walk‑throughs

Familiarity with NAVSEA standard concepts, practices, and procedures for electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.

Ability to work in high‑heat spaces, climb shipyard stairways, work in kneeling positions, and lift up to 50 lbs (80% of the shift) while carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 40 lbs.

Strong safety orientation.

Willingness to travel up to 10% to various work sites and to Newport News, VA.

Additional Desired Experience and Skills

Active DoD Secret clearance.

OSHA certification.

Fiber‑optic certification.

Salary Range $61,500 – $79,821.05 (Newport News, VA) / $75,000 – $105,000 (Norfolk, VA).
