Job Description
Our Email & SMS Strategist is responsible for strategizing, executing, and optimizing email and SMS marketing campaigns to enhance customer engagement, retention, and revenue growth. This role requires a deep understanding of audience segmentation, lifecycle marketing, and data-driven decision-making. You will manage and expand our email and SMS channels, ensuring campaigns are high-performing and aligned with overall marketing goals. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with Klaviyo or similar, an analytical mindset, and a passion for delivering personalized, impactful messaging.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute email and SMS marketing strategies to drive sales and engagement
Manage and maintain customer data within Klaviyo, ensuring accurate audience segmentation, list hygiene, and CRM best practices to enhance targeting and personalization
Implement strategies to grow email and SMS subscriber lists while maintaining quality and compliance
Analyze email and SMS campaign performance, including open rates, CTRs, conversion rates, and revenue impact, while providing regular reporting with insights and recommendations
Optimize email/SMS templates for deliverability, engagement, and conversion using A/B testing and personalization strategies
Work closely with content, design, and product teams to ensure consistent messaging and brand voice
Create automated workflows, behavior-based messaging sequences, and win back campaigns to enhance customer retention
Manage the organic social content calendar in alignment with email campaigns, overseeing daily posting, engagement, and scheduling to maintain cohesive cross-channel messaging
Stay up to date with industry trends, updates to the email service provider (Klaviyo), and best practices to enhance the effectiveness of campaigns
Develop, document, and implement best practices for email and SMS marketing to ensure consistent execution across the team
Don’t know about ponds? That’s ok! You’ll be trained to be proficient in your job. We utilize an interactive combination of hands‑on and visual training to ensure everyone has a full understanding of the TPG family of brands' proactive approach to pond management.
Skill Set To be successful in this role, you need to have a certain amount of knowledge and skills:
4+ years of experience in email and SMS marketing, with a strong focus on strategy, automation, and analytics
Experience working with D2CEcommerce brands is required
Expert‑level proficiency in Klaviyo or similar email service provider platform, including flows, segmentation, reporting, and integrations
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and optimize campaigns for performance
Experience with A/B testing, deliverability best practices, and email/SMS compliance regulations for email and SMS
Strong project management skills utilizing work management software (such as Asana)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail
Basic HTML and CSS knowledge for email formatting is a plus
The ideal candidate is both highly technical and strategically focused, combining deep technical expertise with a strong ability to develop and execute effective strategies. This person should continually add value to the organization beyond their day‑to‑day tasks.
This position requires manual dexterity for typing, sitting at a desk, and looking at a computer screen for long periods of time. In addition, portions of the position may require job shadowing and training, which includes physical activity of lifting 25-35 pounds and standing for long periods of time.
Availability This is a full‑time salary position. The typical schedule will be 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. However, some evenings and Saturdays may be required for projects that must be done outside of regular business hours.
Remote Position Our Email & SMS Strategist role is a work‑from‑home position. However, there are certain times our Email & SMS Strategist role may be required to come onsite, or report virtually, for training or other employer‑sponsored events that are during or outside your regular work schedule. Remote employees must be able to meet the standards of The Pond Guy’s telecommuting policy, which includes internet speeds and workspace requirements.
