Posting Summary The Zander laboratory at the Waksman Institute of Microbiology looks for an individual that investigates stimulus-induced 3D epigenome reprogramming in crop and medicinal plant species. The individual will develop cistrome mapping tools for various plant species and conduct research on questions related to transcription factor DNA‑driven 3D epigenome dynamics in immune responses. The work involves molecular, genetic and (epi)genomic research to better understand transcription factors and epigenome dynamics. The successful candidate will report directly to the laboratory Principal Investigator (PI).

Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience:

Doctorate in biochemistry, molecular biology, or an allied field.

Certifications‑Licenses N/A

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

In-depth understanding and hands‑on experience in preparation and analysis of proteins, nucleic acids, and complexes thereof.

In-depth understanding and hands‑on experience in molecular cloning and sequencing.

Effective spoken and written English required.

High level of computer literacy required.

Preferred Qualifications

In-depth understanding and hands‑on experience in RNA‑seq and ChIP‑seq sample preparation, data collection, and data processing.

Physical Demands and Work Environment Average to above‑average levels of mobility expected for laboratory environment.

Overview Key Duties & Responsibilities:

90 %

Conduct grant‑funded research as directed by the PI, including genetic, (epi)genomics, and proteomic analyses in crop and medicinal plant species. Expected contributions to manuscript writing, grant proposals, and presentation of results at scientific meetings.

10 %

Train and oversee undergraduate researchers on related projects, including teaching Arabidopsis genetics, genomics, recombinant DNA techniques, protein biochemistry, microscopy, high‑throughput proteomics, and presentation skills.

Expected outcomes:

Assigned projects completed on time and within budgetary guidelines.

Analyses conducted using standard and specialized methods and in accordance with established procedures.

Detailed documentation of all procedures and results.

Clear communication of all procedures and results.

Work conducted independently (with supervision as necessary).

Statement Level of Decision Making:

The individual must navigate the highly complex and often unpredictable nature of scientific research, address management challenges of leading a diverse research team, and make well‑informed recommendations to the PI.
