The AssistantSuperintendent’s responsibilities include but are not limited to: helping the Superintendent manage the execution of commercial construction projects, enforcing safety and legal regulations to ensure a safe jobsite, and communicating with subcontractors and field staff to ensure adherence to schedules, plans, and specifications.

The efforts of the Asst. Superintendent will aid in successfully completing projects on time and within budget, while achieving the highest level of quality. This individual will be an integral part of the entire project team to ensure successful completion of projects.

Working under the direction of the Construction Superintendent, assist with scheduling, coordinating, and managing subcontractors, vendor deliveries and building inspections within predetermined timeframe, on budget or below, with high quality and great attention to detail.

Help write and manage subcontract agreements and purchase orders.

Help Superintendents oversee jobsite foremen.

Manages multiple projects simultaneously.

Maintain safe work sites for volunteers and subcontractors, ensuring that all sites are compliant with OSHA guidelines.

Ability to read plans, surveys and related documents relative to site.

Manage all RFIs, submittals, contract documents, SKS, ASI, and correspondence with design team.

Assist Superintendent with job costing, owner billings, sub billings, and change order management.

Proactively manage the job using intelligence, experience, and common sense.

Attend the preconstruction meeting with the Superintendent, Owner, Architect, and the PEC team.

Be an advocate for the job. Make sure that it is always moving forward.

Review plans and specifications to identify the types and grades of materials and equipment needed and to ensure compliance with project requirements.

Review the estimate to understand how the budget fits to the construction and time frame of the projects assigned.

Support the Superintendent’s pre-job meetings with the Project Manager to review scope of work, manpower requirements, work sequence, special requirements, and safety awareness.

Support the Superintendent’s collaboration with the Project Manager throughout the full project cycle.

Review buyout log to ensure all scopes are covered.

Review the Superintendent’s budget so that you are aware of the actual manpower and workdays that have been budgeted for all tasks.

Review all subcontracts so that they are aware of what scope is in every subcontract.

Help oversee and manage Foremen and crew(s).

In collaboration with Superintendent, coordinate the job site layout as well as all required temporary facilities for the project site. (Trailer, Conex, power, water, portable toilets, data, fence, PEC banners, etcetera.)

Coordinate timely inspections.

Monitor and log daily project activities and milestones to include uploading photos and reports to Procore daily.

Update the project schedule monthly with the Project Manager and Project Engineer.

Ensure that there is an SDS folder with the actual hazards on the jobsite.

Read and interpret construction documents and identify issues and discrepancies in documentation.

Participate in weekly subcontractor coordination meetings and weekly OAC meeting.

Review weekly labor costs with the Project Manager.

Schedule pre-work meetings with all subs, to go over scope and submittals. To be assisted by the Project Manager and Project Engineer.

Fill out and follow the concrete pre-pour checklist. Coordinate all concrete pours.

Prepare daily Job Hazard Analysis with our labor, and with the subcontractors.

Ensure that the State Fire Marshall is scheduled at least 1 month prior to the needed final inspection.

Skills, Knowledge, Experience, & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in construction or related field, or a minimum of 2 years experience supporting construction project managers or superintendents.

Computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Procore, P6, Bluebeam, and other project management software.

Must ensure work is executed safely in accordance with OSHA standards.

Must have excellent attention to detail.

Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

Must have experience with all aspects of commercial construction.

Must be able to read and interpret construction documents and identify issues and discrepancies in the documents.

Must be proficient at multi-tasking and organizing activities to meet deadlines.

Must understand the technical requirements of the construction industry.

Must be knowledgeable of standard contracting procedures and practices.

Must be able to manage field supervisors and subcontractors.

>Must maintain a positive and professional working relationship with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and coworkers. Must have or obtain OSHA 30 Hour Certification.

Must be a highly motivated, passionate, and creative team-player with ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all levels within and external to the organization.

Must own a working vehicle with valid Driver’s License.

The employee will need to regularly lift and/or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 75 lbs.

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to communicate information and ideas effectively so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer), as well as peripheral vision and depth perception.

Duties are performed both in an office environment and at work sites to review progress and meeting with project stakeholders; travel to work sites using employee's personal transportation is required.

At worksites, exposure to conditions like weather elements, airborne particles, dust, asphalt, moving mechanical parts, occasional chemicals, electrical shock, vibration, and loud noise levels may occur.

Regular and predictable attendance is required for this full-time position. Workdays and hours coincide with job site and/or office hours. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices.
