About the Role: The Commercial Lines Underwriting Manager leads a team of commercial underwriters in support of Hastings Insurance’s corporate and departmental goals. This role is responsible for underwriting leadership, staff development, and maintaining underwriting discipline while partnering across the organization to support profitable growth, customer service excellence, and product evolution.

What You’ll Do: Lead a Commercial Lines underwriting unit, including coaching, training, staffing, and performance management.

Guide the team to achieve corporate and departmental objectives related to loss ratio, premium growth, policy growth, and customer service.

Provide daily underwriting guidance and support to ensure sound decision‑making and consistent execution.

Establish, maintain, and reinforce underwriting discipline, structure, and philosophy.

Monitor compliance with underwriting policies, practices, and standards.

Partner with Product Development to support the creation and enhancement of commercial insurance products.

Contribute to departmental and enterprise‑wide initiatives and projects.

Develop and maintain Commercial Lines duty reports and related documentation.

Engage in ongoing professional development, continuing education, and leadership growth.

Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership.

Additional Role Highlights: Regular interaction with underwriters, agency partners, and internal stakeholders across the organization.

Occasional travel to states where Hastings Insurance operates.

Role is based at Hastings Insurance corporate offices, with potential consideration for hybrid or remote arrangements.

What You’ll Bring: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Insurance Management, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Minimum of five years of Commercial Lines underwriting experience.

Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

Professional designations such as AU or CPCU preferred.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency with business applications and keyboarding skills.

A leadership mindset focused on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
