This role is part of a 4‑12 week program that prepares candidates for a department manager position. Trainees will travel within the division to train and provide relief, create an outstanding customer experience, maintain a safe and clean environment, and achieve sales and profit goals for the department. They will also support day‑to‑day operations, supervise staff, and demonstrate Kroger’s core values: respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with associates and promote teamwork to help achieve company/store goals.

Establish performance goals for the department and empower associates to meet or exceed targets.

Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume throughout hours of operation.

Adhere to all local, state and federal laws, company guidelines, and food safety regulations.

Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.

Develop and implement a department business plan to achieve desired results.

Create and execute sales promotions in partnership with store management.

Inform and educate department associates about current, upcoming and special in‑store promotions, especially promotions that affect the Drug/GM department; stay current on present, future, and seasonal ads.

Prepare and submit seasonal critiques for the sales and merchandising supervisor, implement period promotional plan for the department.

Maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions; note any discrepancies in inventory.

Schedule daily, weekly and monthly price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs.

Plan, organize and supervise the inventory process; monitor/control expenses for the department.

Train department associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO).

Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notifying appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.

Report all safety risks or issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft or fraud.

Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports.

Must be able to perform the essential job functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualifications Minimum

Excellent oral/written communication skills.

Ability to handle stressful situations.

Basic math skills (e.g., counting, addition, and subtraction).

Desired

High School Diploma or GED.
